It is official, Sloan will be supporting Australian rockers Jet on their upcoming tour of the USA. A complete list of the dates can be found in our tour section.
This will be a great opportunity for Sloan to return to some of their favorite cities and to reconnect with fans in parts of the USA that they haven't been able to visit for years. Hopefully they will also be able to reach out to some of the like minded Jet fans who have yet to experience Sloan's live performance.
Hope to see you at one of the shows!

Don't forget to release "Action Pact" in Japan, and tour in Japan!
Lisa (Halifax, NS) - May 20, 2004 8:05 AM
That's great news. Jet are pretty hot right now so they should be able to reach a new fan base. Congratulations boys.

Been waiting for this day for 13 years. July 22nd...Austin...Sloan live. Great venue for a show as well. If you guys want a bar tour after the show, let me know. I'd be honored.
Clay (near Niagara Falls, NY) - May 21, 2004 8:57 AM
I noticed you guys don't have any shows scheduled for July 1st, and since youre going to be playing with Jet, why not play their Niagara Falls show :) I'll be at the show tonight in Williamsville and the show in August with Sam Robers, Constantines, Stills, etc (AWESOME!!!), but as all the fans know...you just can't get enough Sloan. So if you aren't doing anything that night why not stop by the Falls and play a few songs...PLEASE!!!!
Jessica - May 21, 2004 9:52 AM
Will Jet be opening for Sloan at the Detroit, May 23rd Show??
Can't wait to see you guys, been waiting for you to come back to Detroit!!!!
Elizabeth - May 21, 2004 1:19 PM
Ah, news of an impending Sloan show is a beautiful thing. If San Francisco is the last show w/ Jet, is there a chance of a separate headlining date somewhere in the area? (Even a mini-set at Amoeba Records would do. I hold out hope that someday you'll play in Santa Cruz, but I won't push my luck just now.) What can I say, a fan gets Sloansome after a while...but I'm thrilled, honestly.
mike - May 21, 2004 10:31 PM
Yes!!!!!!! I had to cancel my trip to the Grog shop in CLevand to see Sloan! Sloan is finally
coming to Dallas after so many years. Way cool! Great to see Sloan back in Texas. I saw Sloan
on their first tour in Houston back in the early 90's. I cant wait!
Rob - May 22, 2004 9:20 AM
Just last fall I remember seeing Jet opening up for the Super Friendz in Toronto. How quickly these things turn around...
Good luck with the tour, lads.
chris - May 22, 2004 3:14 PM
Jet sucks and this sucks. That song of theirs is a the biggest rip of "Lust for Life" ever. Jet are soulless and sound exactly like a bad Sloan cover band. When the Strokes say you suck, i think it's time to quit music forever. No, seriously Jet, quit making crappy music. Hopefully all the stupid Jet fans will realize what good music is and give up on Jet for some Sloan.
Russ - May 22, 2004 3:44 PM
Jet suck. I just went to a gig tonight that Jet were supposed to play but they cancelled (the show was sold out). I didn't go because of Jet, I went because there's some kickass local bands here in Perth, Western Australia, and 3 of the finest local acts (including my frontman from my band doing a solo spot) took over instead. Jet are so god damn boring and their fans here are idiots. But... they also provide an opportunity for Sloan to come back to Australia. If possible, come back to Australia with Jet and give us our SLOAN fix! You haven't been here since 1999 and even then it was only a quick visit to the east coast. Sloan will go down a treat here, as it is, myself and some other musicians who are big on Sloan are now resorting to starting a Sloan tribute band to make the fans here happy.
Please Sloan, come back to Australia! Some good must come out of playing with that godawful band Jet!
Kris - May 23, 2004 4:44 PM
Jet is OK, and, like someone above said, "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is a weak imitation of "Lust For Life", and a few other songs are rip-offs of Sloan songs (can't think of names offhand, but one of them apes "If It Feels Good Do It."
Still, Jet is OK, they are fairly popular right now, and it will be good exposure for Sloan, who will undoubtedly blow them off of the stage. No Detroit date for that tour, though. Oh well, I guess I'll have to settle for the show tonight at St. Andrew's. Woo hoo!
Matt - May 24, 2004 1:37 AM
I must agree, Jet IS aweful. It's a shame that they have become so successful capitalizing off of Sloan's sound and look. I'm hoping that they are just another flash in the pan novelty act that got lucky with a hit single. I am also hoping that most of the Jet fans will wisen up when they hear Sloan! As always, history remembers the innovators, not the followers.
James - May 24, 2004 2:17 PM
I can't understand people's problems with Jet. Yes, they have a big hit single that I'll agree is a bit annoying sometimes, but IMO, Get Born has some cool songs on it. Don't get me wrong, I am a Sloan fan foremost (of course), but I don't see a problem with other bands that happen to sound half-decent. In fact, I think it would be great if MORE bands sounded like Sloan! I don't think people should blatently rip them off or anything...but you can't say Jet is guilty of this. First of all, they don't have the same voices, and second of all, they are after all from Australia and probably had never heard of Sloan until recently (unless they saw them on the BTB tour, which I think is somewhat unlikely).
Jill - May 24, 2004 3:31 PM
Although I'm not a fan of Jet at all, I'm just happy I get to see Sloan again this summer. The Boston show a little while back was great (as are all their shows that I've seen), and I'm just excited to get the chance to see Sloan soon in NYC or Providence. My friends that are going to the show are Jet fans, and I'm planning on converting them to Sloan fans.
Amy - May 24, 2004 9:00 PM
How excited am I that Sloan is coming to Dallas!!! With Sarah McLachlan in town the following Thursday, I'm hoping to set a record for "most Haligonians seen in concert in one week!" Have a good tour, guys, and we'll see you soon:)
Bobby - May 25, 2004 3:52 PM
This is sad. I unfortunately saw Jet open for Kings of Leon in SF a few months ago, they were beyond horrible and their fans are worse.
Sloan has been one of the best and most consistantly good bands of the last 20 years or so and for them to open for these flash in the pan clowns breaks my heart.
Oh how I wish Sloan would come and headline a show in Seattle.

Man...a whole lotta Jet bashing goin' on in these parts, eh? As for me, I love Jet. A lot. I feel that made a great old-school rock and roll record and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. On top of that, I think they also nail it live. That said, I'm also a longtime, bigtime Sloan fan and I haven't had the chance to see them in years, so I'm really looking forward to this bill winding down in SF (and to echo a previous sentiment, an Amoeba afternoon set would be great). Okay, that's it...just another stupid Jet fan droppin' by to say howdy. Back to your silly "my band is better than your band" bashing.
Josh Salter - May 25, 2004 8:51 PM
Funny story involving Sloan and Jet...
I was setting up a show for some local bands (way out in the outskirts of Halifax) and I had Pretty Together playing. The bands were arriving for soundcheck and one of the drummers goes, "Is that Jet?" and "If It Feels Good Do It" was playing.
The show was headlining Joel Plaskett none the less.
Dominique - May 26, 2004 5:20 PM
It's funny how a "semi-new" band like Jet would have Sloan opening for them, especially since Sloan has been around for quite sometime. But when the tour is over and Jet jets off to who knows where, who will be remebered - oh yeah Sloan, the kick ass band who has been around and will be around for a while.
Ryan - May 26, 2004 10:35 PM
Althuogh I consider Jet to be nowhere nearly as talented as Sloan, I can at least respect their taste for choosing great bands to open for them. Yes, I have bought the latest (as far as I know, the only) Jet album, and to be fair it has its moments. As with almost every record out there, the best cuts are not the smash-hit singles, but rather the ones that no one ever hears on the radio. However, I have always found that with Sloan, this is not the case. EVERY song, including the smash-hits, are songs that have the power to keep anyone rocking for many, many years. Whereas with Jet, it is yet to be decided as to whether or not their career will last longer than a year or two. Therefore, while I am dissapointed that such a great band is opening for what could be nothing more than "a one hit wonder" band, I am happy that the boys of Jet recognize a powerfully rocking band when they see, or rather hear, one. Good luck to the boys of Sloan to hopefully finally acheiving the attention they deserve in America. See you at the Sam Roberts concert in August!

From Patrick's old tour diary (found elsewhere on this site):
"Then it was off with the gloves and onto the meat of the tour. Operation LOS (Live On Stage) was under way. We decided that our purpose was to blow Fountains of Wayne off the stage every night. Whether we did or not was up to the audience, but friendly rivalry never hurt anybody."
So it seems pretty clear that what you'll have here is a bunch of Jet fans who *think* they know what rock and roll is all about, and then realise how wrong they were after seeing Sloan rock out and totally eclipse their boys each and every night of this tour.
mc - May 27, 2004 11:31 AM
This is like when Superdrag started opening for bands like The Donnas. I mean, it's cool because they get shows where they can expand their base, but it sucks because it doesn't do justice to them. I mean, personally I would have no problem opening for the Donnas, but that is for completely randy, selfish reasons.
Bands that have rightfully been around for 10+ years have absolutely nothing to prove, so this could just be a good business decision.
Nick - May 27, 2004 9:44 PM
Jet are big fans of Sloan...
from virtualfestivals.com
'We're very into The Beatles so I guess that's where some of the melodies comes from. We like Sloan - 'Navy Blues' especially - we're really big disciples of that album. That's exactly what we've been talking about as far as the album as well. It's gonna be dirt and a bit of rawness and plus a bit of sweetness as far as the melodies and stuff.'
Props to Jet for choosing a band like Sloan - a band they know rocks - rather than some other stagnant MTV band.
Ian - May 28, 2004 5:00 PM
so sloan is opening for a band that has drawn inspiration FROM sloan, that got famous off of an Iggy Pop ripoff song.... um, what?
Al - May 29, 2004 10:39 AM
Maybe a half a year ago I bought Get Born after hearing Jet's songs on TV, and all over the Web, particularly on the iPod commercials. I loved Jet for about 4 months, then they started to get old, and too much of a fad. I should've known when I bought the CD for a measly $11 CND. Now that I think about it, Are You Gonna Be My Girl is a bit of a rip of Lust For Life, the bass and drum lines sound the same, but I just think Jet was trying to imitate the style, not the song. I have to say that the Strokes have also used similar drumlines, but now I'm more of a fan of them than Jet. Anyways, hopefully all the fad-ridden fans of Jet will pour some out for Sloan!
Also, where'd The Strokes say that Jet sucks? I need to see this!

Back in Austin after only 12 years.
The crowd will be better this time, and though I miss Liberty Lunch, Stubb's is about as good as it gets for a July night in TX.
Nicole - May 31, 2004 8:18 PM
Jet has referenced several 'inspirational' bands (like Sloan) - including You Am I, who I remember seeing here in Chicago supporting the VonBondies and the Strokes last year. Talk about a kick in the teeth. You Am I and Sloan BOTH don't get the respect from the other music fans, even though bands vocally announce how much they are inspired by them.
Dee Dee - June 1, 2004 2:57 PM
thats because sloan is just too cool for most people, we are among the elite, the coolest people in the world, except for Catsby... fjskoflsd j/k
CMS - June 1, 2004 2:59 PM
Crap, crap, and crap!! No Minneapolis gig? C'mon!!! Yeah, Jet is awful. Funny how Sloan has been able to take that Iggy influence and tweak it into their own sound, while Jet sounds like a bad ripoff. Can't wait for Sloan to blow them Aussies off the stage!
Ok, Sloan boys - Teenage Fanclub is going to tour the US in late 2004 early 2005, and I think you ought to hook up with them for more US tour dates (specifically Minneapolis). Got it? I'll tell Norman, you're in.

the first time i saw jet play a tiny show here in melbourne australia they did a pretty shithouse cover of money city maniacs... true story!
all the boys in jet are really big sloan fans and regardless of what you think of their music, as a bunch of music fans, their hearts are on the right sleeves.
all i'm hoping for is that this tour with jet will get sloan to be able to get back to australia!

jenny s. - June 3, 2004 1:30 PM
Sloan will school Jet. Those LITTLE BOYS in Jet better get ready to learn some hard rockin lessons from the MEN in Sloan. Oh well....I guess the exposure is good...So I'm told.
Elizabeth - June 3, 2004 1:51 PM
Listen to CMS, please! Sloan and Teenage Fanclub together would be fabulous, a dream bill. (Especially since the Fanclub is one of the few bands I can think of that tours San Francisco as infrequently as Sloan does. :-) ) Why not get the reunited Posies on deck, too? You could call it the DGC Label Survivors' Tour...I'd love nothing more.
Tripper - June 6, 2004 1:06 PM
I can't believe how many "cooler-than-thou" Sloan fans there are, ripping Jet. In fact I find it shocking that more Sloan fans don't absolutely LOVE "Get Born". Personally, I think Jet made a better album than The Strokes, The Von Bondies, and all those "retro-rock-revival" types combined. They successfully mixed the melodic aspects of The Beatles and the groove of the Stones with the edge of early AC/DC, and still sounds fresh. Sure, "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" has the same tambourine and drum thing as "Lust For Life", but Iggy didn't make it up - he stole it from Motown. If you really know anything about rock history pre-grunge, you understand that everything has pretty much been done, especially when you are sticking to straight-up rock and roll like Jet does. God bless them for keeping the rock alive, and God bless them for bringing Sloan to parts of the US they haven't seen in years. I hope people pick up on Sloan because of the tour - it'd be nice for once not to get a look like, "Who?" every time I mention Sloan. I think the shows will kick ass, Jet and Sloan alike. I'll see them in Orlando in July!
Mikie - June 6, 2004 7:42 PM
Hey, Not sure what to say. But SLOAN is way better than JET will ever be musically and live. Musically: c'mon SLOAN has 6 full lenght albums under their belts and one (NAVY BLUES) which I believe is on of the ten best records of all time. JET has a freshman hit, wasn't it last summer with that crappy CA band ROONEY had a mild success. That is where I see JET if they don't pull out a sophomore success. But for an amazing Canadian band that rocks live, i'd hate to be JET with SLOAN opening. I am glad SLOAN has a contract for these dates, because JET after night two will be full of doubts as into why they are the headliners, with only one album to play from where SLOAN has more than ten years of flowing sound.
tim - June 11, 2004 4:52 PM
Jet,I like jet,I just bought the jet cd,really good,good rock,and roll,not much I like these days,back then we had alot.Now I have bands like the strokes,the vines,probot,somegirls,afi,and other bands.Theres alot,of cool,stuff being made yet,yes jet is cool.
Yaz - June 15, 2004 3:59 PM
I've gotta side with my man Tripper (June 6th) on this "bashing Jet crap"...'cause it's kinda what it is...
I recall the early days of Sloan. Peppermint EP. Remember that one, Sloan fans? Hmmmm...sounds like that grunge thing to me. Nothing new at the time. Nirvana? Nothing new at the time either. They just beat Green River to a major record deal. Mudhoney? Now THERE's the beginning, right there folks.
I'll give Sloan credit tho'. They realized that feedback and distortion will not bring in the fans when every other band is doing the same they in the early 90's. Reinvent. Re-engineer. Re-write. Whatever you wanna call it. Sloan did it.
Yeah, Jet is rock. That's all. That's it. Rock music is rock music. Jet does not purport to be the innovators of three-chord rock music. TThey are four guys, that got paid some money by a large multinational record company to record 13 tracks for distribution.
And, man, if you don't get the gist of "Last Chance", then the true essence of what Jet does is really lost on you.
Yeah, I can hear the Sloanish (who, by the way, do not hold the market on peppy, melodic harmonies, do they?), influences on Get Born. I can also hear overtures of the Stones, AC/DC, BTO, and even, yes, INXS, all over Get Born.
But, isn't inspiration great?
If something moves you and "If It Feels Good Do It", no?
Maybe we should find some inspiration for ourselves and stop stealing other people's sunshine...
Ciao.
Deanne Hodges - June 21, 2004 11:42 PM
Jet can only benefit from having Sloan opening for them, they have considerable experience as " a travelling band".The whole tour will expose both bands fans to the other. I wish I were able to check out one of the upcoming shows. I'll have to wait until they come back to Western Canada, meanwhile I was pleasantly surprised to find entries in Patrick's online journal. There's something about that man that intrigues me!! ..... Anyway have a great summer, I'll be checking in from the sidelines.

I'm so excited that Sloan is going to play Austin not once, but twice this summer! Texas is hot, boys, but Austin fucking rocks! Can't wait to see ya'll live!
Jennie - June 23, 2004 1:20 PM
Hey Guy's
Congratulations on all your success with Action Pact, people love the new album!!! I asume Sloan will be taking some time off after all of the touring to focus on the new additions to the sloan family,(happy belated father's day boy's), but if there is any thought of a European tour later on I would love to be informed as I will be living there for a few months next year. If it happens, and I'm there, the drinks are on me! See you August 7th!
Cheers.

Joel - June 23, 2004 1:36 PM
It's funny Sloan is playing with Jet cause I remember them sayin they were influenced by Sloan in their early days. It is also funny cause when I heard them do the intro to Cold Hard Bitch I could've sworn they were about to launch into Money City Maniacs. Just as I realized that they weren't I yelled out "SLOAN!!!" and I could've sworn that two of the members of the band looked at each other guilty-faced.
They stole that intro and song and they know it!
Jennie - June 23, 2004 2:45 PM
I may be a little off here but the intro to Cold Hard Bitch also reminds me of the Who. But the sound seems to be working for them so... I don't know. I'm sure if Sloan felt as strongly about this "opening for Jet" thing as their fans, they wouldn't have accepted the gig in the first place, so we probably shouldn't make too many judgements. But ya... If we're making comparisons, Sloan is 100 times better than Jet.

I never heard of the band Jet before until the subject of them came up. But I love the song "Jet" by the Wings. I remember hearing it a lot on the radio when I was on the bus going to school but rarely heard it with all the screaming. Glad school is gone with for me for over a year now, so now I can hear that song w/o the screaming in the background.

I saw Jet last summer at the Leeds festival... NME had touted them as THE band to see, so my friend (incidentally from Melbourne and unaware of their existence) went to watch. They started playing that damn song that's everywhere now and I thought they were covering Lust for Life. Then they took their shirts off in a sore attempt to distract us all from their sorry attempts at music making. Girls screamed, boys cheered, they ripped of the Stones... we left, any possible remaining shreds of respect for the NME swallowed up in the mass crapness that was Jet. That they are now huge makes me want to... well do something bad or angry or the kind of thing people do when a band like Jet has a band like Sloan opening for them. Jet aren't qualified to... well, lick the dirt off of Sloan's shoes... or some other cliche. God damn.
Jennie - June 27, 2004 6:12 PM
"Jet" by Wings IS a great song!
Mary Kathleen, If you enjoy "Lust for Life" You'll either love Jet's single, because it sounds almost identical, or you'll hate it for being such a rip-off. But be assured that "Jet" by Wings is the only worthwhile Jet of which to listen. That is until Sloan proves otherwise.
Later.

JET rocks! Bash all you want the music sells and they are bringing Sloan to us........ gotta love that! I think they will rock together and it'll be one hell of a tour for both the bands.
So hard core Sloan fans suck it up and be glad their on their way. And to everyone...........ROCK ON!

Tell me if this werid. I can go all day listening to a Sloan album non-stop on the computer. Or I would put a cd in the stereo and press repeat on a Jay song. Oh the best Jay song on repeat is "Are You Giving Back My Love?" Times I get this feeling inside, like a weak faint feeling.. and it put me in some kinf of trance, relaxation when I hear it. It's nice really. It's like one of those cd's ya can buy that suppose to relax your tenses.. the sound of the ocean.. that sort. So Jay's voice is like that. Well, there you go. Okay, I'm crazy *smiles*

hmmmm, i haven't missied a single sloan show that has happened in whatever given area i was living in at the time, in like 10 years..... tomorrow they are playing in cleveland (my current place of residence) with jet. i am not really a jet fan (they're alright, i wouldn't even contemplate going, but SLOAN joined the bill)....but 23 bones........ i'm not made of $$$$. what is a girl to do?! i know the $23 + drinks is worth it to see the boys, however, then i have to deal with the jet fans.....i only get along with sloan fans (they're the most fun)......my point in writing this is i need someone to make up my mind for me....... or, atleast make me realize how sad it would be if i missed it.

I went to the Jet concert last night in Orlando. What a great show. I heard Sloan for the first time, and I was so impressed by their live performance that I logged on to iTunes today and purchased both of the CDs available. Hope Sloan returns to Orlando again.

A friend and I went to the show in Columbus, Ohio. Came from Bloomington, In to see Sloan, and Jet. I've been a Sloan fan for about 7 years. Have most all of their CD's. One Cord to Another is my favorite album of Sloan's collection. Sloan played great! One of the best rock shows I've ever been. Jet was cool, I like there CD a lot. I did get to meet Chris and Andrew, of Sloan. I wanted to meet Pat and Jay, but Chris sayed " they don't care about you." Great job to Sloan! I play the Bass, and did get a chance to tell Chris what a great Bass player he is. I first Sloan song I listened to was off MTV's 120 minutes. The Good In Everyone has such a cool Bass line. This was my first Sloan show. Please come back soon. Thanks. Matt

Like Russ & Natsmurf were saying, it'd be more than great if Sloan could get back to Australia for another tour (even though it takes yonks to get here). Tickets for the Jet tour here in Oct. go on sale really soon. Is there any chance Sloan is the support????
