I can't afford to see the Stones! It's still pretty cool to be on the same bill with Britan's favourite old farts!

Racergrl754 -

This is more than a well deserved honor for the band! Congrats from your fans in AZ!
As a fan, I am beaming wiht pride for ya!

i'd like to know how that came about.

Deanne -

No shit,
That's wicked, I'm very pleased for all of you, refreshing to see all of your hard work and dedication paying off in spades. That's even a tad more exciting than leaving Canada for Spain in the middle of January, although if I had a choice I'd rather be in Spain. Anyway here's wishing you all the best of the holidays of both the naughty and nice varieties. Hoping to see you all back in Edmonton next year, have a fabulous tour.
Over and out,
Eternal fan Deanne

Lothriel -

Allan B (Elias) -

This is an awesome break for you guys! Knock 'em dead.

Yes, it is ironic to say that a band that's been around for 13 years plus is getting a "break."

Alicia -

how exciting, if I don't see anything about this in the tour journal afterwards, I'm gonna be wondering...(hint hint :) )

have fun!

Andrew -

HOLY SHIT! so...this is all a big joke........right?

I'm so pleased for you! You'll be brilliant, especially as you've admitted on your recent DVD that you've been practicing for years to BE the Rolling Stones!!

The Stones! That's totally rad. Sloan's sound should go over big with them. Dude, if it were the 60's - they'd be right alongside them too!!

Way to go! & have a monumental '06 fellas.

JDC -

Honestly, I am buying tickets to see Sloan and plan to leave once the Stones get on stage...

Mike -

Congratulations guys that is amazing news. If any band deserves to open for the Stones it would be Sloan. You guys have paid your dues. To me it gets a bit frustrating when I see you touring the states opening for bands like Jet and the Strokes. I am sure those bands have you as heavy influences - I respect both of those bands but believe you guys should be headlining those tours. I am sure the boys from Sloan check this discussion from time to time so here goes. My wife Linda and I saw you for the first time in Sacramento opening for Red Cross (I still owe Patrick an early Red Cross CD) and have been huge fans ever since. I remember talking to this girl before you went on and she flew down from Seattle to see you play. After you guys took the stage I then realized why she went to all that trouble to see a band in a small bar in Sacramento. About 4 months later you were playing at the Troubadour in LA and we drove down just to see you guys play and the show rocked. We have talked to you guys a few times - after the show at the Coach House a few others and then we ran into you at Spaceland at the Supergrass show. I would have to say you guys are truly genuine people and I hope you remember us when the Stones are opening for you in a few years HAHA. One of these days it will hopefully happen for you on a large scale in the States. Cheers

Dave -

I will be there on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing you all as much as the Stones. Lots of the Stones fan websites are asking who you are. Show that crowd what you're about.

Pete & Sues -

Like Dave, I'll be there, but on Friday night. I know I won't be able to smuggle in a camera, I'd love to get some pics of the scene tonight. I'm so excited. Haven't been to a show this big for a long time. There will be a lot of press there tonight too so I'm counting on some life changing stuff from that stage.

Lisa (Halifax, NS) -

Mike, please post some pictures of the Sloans on that gigantic stage. Too bad this couldn't have been set up for Moncton last year. I've been thinking about this show all day and all the lucky ducks who get to go.

Here's hoping for a tour diary entry from Pat.... (hint, hint)

Alicia -

hehe... friday the 13th, a full moon, and Sloan with the Stones ...how bizare and wonderful ... good luck tonight ;D

Ruh -

Yeah, I definitely want to hear more about this via tour diary! ;) Congrats, guys - hope last night's was awesome and tomorrow's is better.

paula fitz -

I;VE NEVER HEARD OF SLOAN, BUT AFTER READING THIS SITE, I CAN;T WAIT TO HEAR THEM PLAY SUNDAY NIGHT!!!!!!

SHP -

Come back and post a review, Paula! Hope you love Sloan like we do!

Dave -

Quick review of the Sloan/Stones show on Sunday. Sloan came out to a largely empty arena and kicked it. The crowd filled up as the set went on and they cheered every song fairly enthusiasticly. We were sitting in the back of the floor and moved up about halfway. I stood and sang thru most of the songs but i was the only one doing so around me. didn't matter, it was great.

The band played great, like the arena was full for them. Chris indoctrinated the crowd to the "Slo-oan!" cheer throughout the show and got some response. there were even a few betwen song "Slo-oans!" from individuals in the crowd (includng me) which Chris acknowledged. He even made the cheer "Sto-ones!" a few times.

The band was great. They played for about 40 minutes, played loud and played well. Chris was in good form, including the signature kicks. He even did a quick walk/run up one of Mick's ramps at the end of the show to show some versatility.

I went to A merch table--they had one sloan shirt for sale (the green one with the Sloan logo from A Sides Win), the A Sides Wn CD and a cool Sloan belt buckle. i heard the guy say he sold one shirt--so not a total loss!

The funniest thing was a reporter from the CBC came up to me after Sloan played and asked me if i had a picture of the band playing. had one on my cell phone, but it was pretty bad quality. She said she was covering the show and that she talked to a few other people there who were Sloan fans. I guess i was the only dope getting into the show in my area, so she spotted me.

All in all, it was a unique Sloan experience and worth every dime. They won the crowd over--oh yeah, Stones were great too. I've Sloan and the Stones a bunch of times (stones were the first band i ever liked), and seeing them together was a great one-two punch.

Set list as best as i can remember follows. not sure if i have the order exactly right and I may have forgotten one or two. there was one song i didn't know--probably one everyone on this board knows it, but i don't have every Sloan album:

The Good in Everyone
Penpals
The Lines You Amend
?
Money City Maniacs
Sensory Deprivation
Ready for You
Friendship
The Rest of My Life
If It Feels Good, Do It

Dave

Keith -

I went to the Boston show Friday night.
You guys rocked!!!!
I was actually outside having a beer or 3 when you started playing.
I walked in and caught most of your set.
Very good!! Plenty of people, yes it was an "older" crowd, stopped talking to listen.
That's a good sign.

I admit,I'd never heard you until then. What a great way for exposure.

Best of luck

Stagg -

Funny, when the Stones announced the Moncton Show I sent them a big e-mail detailing why they should have Sloan on the bill (along with Sam Robets and K-Os). I have seen Sloan and the Stones several times but together would have been awesome. Glad to hear you rocked it!!

Bill -

I travelled from Ireland just to see Sloan sharing a gig with the Stones - the Strolling Bones were OK but Sloan were mighty. Never heard better. I'm on for another pilgrimage to see you guys again on 31 January in the UK Underworld at Camden in London.

Kristie -

WOW! Okay, I am TOTALLY out of the loop...decided to pop by the site to see what was going on in the world of Sloan. Apparently LOTS!!!!!!!! Congrats guys and the best of luck in 2006!

doker -

hehe... friday the 13th, a full moon, and Sloan with the Stones
