Wednesday, Nov. 23, sees us performing two songs at the CASBY awards at Toronto’s Kool Haus.
Thursday through to Sunday we will be playing several shows with the Illuminati, whose bass player/singer Nick Sewell was recently voted Toronto's best bassist in NOW magazine's annual Best Of poll. One Chris Murphy has been furiously brushing up on his chops for the impending “bass-off” that is sure to ensue.
Finally, we will break tradition and play New Years Eve in the town of Barrie.
These gigs will mark the end of an enjoyable run of shows that saw us playing throughout the US and Canada, including the Coachella festival, two sold out nights at New York's Bowery Ballroom, dates with the Foo Fighters, and numerous other festivals and clubs.
We will continue to support A Sides Win in the new year. New dates will be posted as they are confirmed.
UPDATE: I'm happy to announce that both the Kitchener and London shows are all ages/licensed. I wish that this could always be the case with our shows. If any younger fans have been trying to catch a show (or two) now's your chance. To refresh your geography, Kitchener is about an hour west of Toronto. London is only a couple of hours east of Detroit. Hope to see you later this week.

I'd love to see the UK (London specifically) in your new dates.
You've had a manic year, from what I read about you, and sounds like it's time for a well deserved rest! I wish I was spending New Year at a Sloan show though!
Keep up the great work, and Try To Make It (geddit?!) to the UK soon.

Can you please give us some more info on the New Years Eve date in Barrie? There would be no better way to ring in the new year!
SHP - November 21, 2005 10:37 pm
Ha! Thanks for saying London is 2 hours east of Detroit! It is! And about 2 hours west of Toronto! :) Meet y'all in the middle! And a bass-off sounds fun!

I move away and you guys decide to play Barrie on New Years... so unfair. You better make it up to us on the west coast for 2006!! I'll be waiting....
Miranda - November 22, 2005 12:01 am
Dear Sloan,
Meet me at Barrie Town Hall at midnight ;)

Speaking of Christmas time: Sometimes I wish that Sloan would cover old Christmas songs and i don't know why :)
Andrew - November 22, 2005 3:56 pm
Hurry up and come back to the U.S of A. I need a Sloan fix!
Marc. - November 22, 2005 4:14 pm
Oooh, I could make any of these shows... but I'm lookin at Hamilton and Barrie... *starts to plan some concert trips* :)
MartyZ - November 22, 2005 8:43 pm
Lack of an official Sloan show in Toronto is making me go into an emotional recession.
Seeing as my birthday is of the New Year's Day brand, i suggest a joint Sloanfest/birthday bash'06.
brrr it's cold in Barrie.

I can't freakin' believe it. We're coming back to K-W to visit family and friends over US Thanksgiving, and Sloan is playing! Yo, we're there! We last saw Sloan on the Between the Bridges tour, at the Black Cat in Washington, DC. I've been a Sloan fan since they came out with their first cassette release with Underwhelmed, which we played then on our radio show at CKMS-FM in Waterloo back in my college days. We're coming up from northern Indiana. Looking forward to seeing you guys Thursday!

I just got back from an Illuminati show where they blew the socks off the main act: Sloan. As a friend put it, Sloan is too old to rock, but too young to die. Harsh but true. Even playing your hits made the show a poor specticle, with the booing and taunting topping the cake. I was walking out early as I saw your opening act with faces of disappointment. And another thing... all your new songs sound like you wrote them in 5 minutes, don't expect people to buy that shit because it doesn't rock. Waste of 25 dollars
montie - November 27, 2005 3:40 am
dear "concerned",
i wasnt at the show. but i am pretty sure that you are a douce bag who doesnt know what they are talking about.
Nikki - November 27, 2005 11:59 am
Concerned is entitled to his/her opinion, but I have to say that I absolutely love and adore all of Sloan's music, it's superwickedcool and I can't wait to hear a new album. I'd love to see them live, but because I live in England it ain't gonna happen. The nearest I get to live is the 4 Nights album. I'd love to be able to buy another live Sloan album (hint, hint).
Keep up the great work, Sloans, and get your sweet, sexy asses to the UK soon! (Not August next year though - I'm getting married then and will be in Canada for two weeks after that on my honeymoon. But anytime before or after mid-September will be fine by me) ;-)

Congrats on the new radio show, Jay and Chris :)
Hmm, if we're thinking more all-ages shows, I'd be definitely up for one in Calgary. Consider it? We'd love to have you.
Hope the Illuminati shows are/were good.
lynn - November 29, 2005 8:27 pm
Hey concerned! If you want people to take you seriously, you may want to learn how to spell "spectacle" correctly. Not surprised to see that you have a cbc email address, though!
SHP - November 29, 2005 10:51 pm
Opinions are opinions. I enjoyed the Illuminati.
But saying someone is too old to rock? That annoys me. No such thing. That's like saying "too young to know better". Oh wait! Hmmm . . . Now everyone go brush your teeth and go to bed!
Love,
mom

Living in Detroit has it's benifits, few mind you, but to have access to Canadian radio stations is certainly one of them.
I just wanted to say thanks for the radio show Saturday night December 3rd. I had never heard of Sloan before, but your eclectic mix of music was refreshing and enlighting. Sorry that I didn't know about you earlier, I would have made it a point to check out the show in Pontiac Michigan.
As a side note, I was coming home from playing a gig when I heard the show. Put a guitar in my hands and I can stay up all night. At fifty four years of age I know there is no such thing as too old to rock.

I love you. Welcome to the fold. (Their radio show was pretty good, eh? They even played Caribou for gods' sake, you can't deny the sweetness of that.)

Don't worry, Patrick. I'm all over this. Do you think I could live with myself if I let Kalan Porter steal your title?
;P
SHP - December 5, 2005 11:53 pm
Miranda! You've stolen Patrick's underwear? Oh, oops. I read that incorrectly! ;)
Russell! Yes! Next time Sloan are in the area, come check them out! You won't be disappointed! (your fellow Detroit-area-er)

Hi. Just skimming through the comments, and found the one about how the Illuminati "blew the socks off of...Sloan". I wasn't at that show, but I was at the next one, and was hence one of the priviledged who got to see both acts on the same stage. When the Illuminati came on, I've got to admit that I laughed loudly at the trucker hats and incredibly ragged hair. However, I was later forced to admit that although the vocals from the larger fellow could use some work, the skinny guy played amazingly. Despite all his amazing-ness, however, I could not, with any whit of honesty, say that they rocked better, harder, or longer, than Sloan.
Also, anybody who even thinks that there's an age limit on Rock is unworthy of music itself and should stop buying tickets to any show - so that people who "know what rock n' roll is about" can get thier hands on them.
