That's 32 new Sloan songs for $9.99. A great bargain that has instantly entered the top of iTunes album sales charts.
Stay tuned for details on conventional pre-order deals, and international plans.

There's a separate iTunes for Canada??? So, does this mean that fans in the USA cannot get the bonus tracks via iTunes??? I cannot, for the life of me, understand why bands do this...giving certain countries (like Japan, in many instances) all kinds of bonus tracks, when the United States, in most cases, provides the bulk of any successful band's fan base. This isn't meant to slight Canadians, nor be a "USA! USA!" kind of thing, but seriously...despite Sloan's massive status in Canada, by sheer volume alone, if you take Sloan's cult status here in the states, we probably outnumber Candadian fans...
So, my beef is why do I, as an avid follower of Sloan, have to pay extra for some import CD that will cost me 12.00 for 2 extra tracks. It's like some sort of bizarre mind-fuck punishment.
With that said, I cannot wait for the new record (see, I'll probably buy the CD AND download it from iTunes), and when they come to the Boston area, I'll be there...
Cheers

Will the US releace have the 2 bonus trscks? Holla
Tanya Kearney - August 25, 2006 3:45 PM
My question is will these two tracks be offered on the CD within Canada?
Chuck - When I lived in Japan I bought a lot of CDs - mostly because they did come with many bonus items, like posters, extra tracks, even keychains. I think it has to do with cost or else the record labels are the ones that make the decisions. Canada doesn't normally get extra tracks on ANY cds, we also have to buy the Japanese imports if we want to hear the extra tracks. Either that, or illegally download them from some source on the 'net. I think that we should have a FAN CLUB established finally - for those of us that do take the time to post here, comment, submit pictures and spend the money on tshirts, vinyl, concert tickets and those "extra" tracks. That way, when CDs come out, they COULD theoretically have the extra tracks available for fan club members. There could also be a ticketing system established or pre-sale type idea for loyal fans.
I've been a fan for almost 20 years and I would love to establish a fan club type thing.
Mike, let me know. ;)

Tears flow every time I try to use itunes Canada and get denied. I even tried while in Nova Scotia but it was like they KNEW it was a US laptop...
To my Canadian friends, remember how fortunate you are in so many ways!

to my great astonishment i came across it in itunes a couple days ago, and already have it preordered... here i thought i was always the last to know... (i think that fan club idea is great)
Chuck - August 25, 2006 11:56 PM
Hey Tanya,
Thanks for the input. Pretty cool that you lived in Japan for a while...I have a good friend who lived there and he got immersed in the culture. Once a year he has a japanese food night....that has NOTHING to do with this discussion, though.
Anyway, I guess I'm just venting frustration. When I first heard of the new record, of course the Canadian release date is only a couple weeks away, with NO U.S.A date even established yet. I'm sure I'll find an import at our local/cool store, Newbury Comics, but alas, I'll pay 22.00 for it. But, I'll fork it out. I'm amazed that there's a seperate iTunes for Canada, though. I mean, really, it's all digital...why should there be a seperate iTunes for ANYone? What a draaaag. Anyway, I must sound like a big ol' bitch, but it's just a drag. It just seems that, for something like this, Sloan, themselves, must have some say in it. I could be wrong, though, so I'm not going to speak in absolutes.
Like you, Tanya, I've been a fan since Day 1, and I'd like to say that I have all their recorded stuff, but I'm sure I'm missing a lot! Perhaps some of you Canadian brothers and sisters can help us American folks out and we can trade stuff.
The fan club idea is quite rocking, though. Has that ever really been discussed in serious terms amongst Sloan, Inc.?

Hey Chuck--try maplemusic.com. I've done that with the last couple albums, and not only is delivery relatively quick, but you get an import at a non-import price! Plus they usually throw something extra into the mix.
On another note, I hope they don't have that copy-protection crap again on this one. I know it's Sony's fault, not the band's, , but it is such a pain in the ass to have to re-download tracks (which I did, via eMusic) when you already bought the damn album because it won't play properly in iTunes. I know the US version won't have that, but I don't know when the US version will arrive, so there ya go.
Tanya Kearney - August 28, 2006 3:57 PM
Chuck - use Laura's idea and check out Maple Music. They're pretty good for ordering stuff from. I don't even use iTunes!! I have a Mac but mostly use PC right now. iTunes is a pain. I'd rather have a hard copy any day! Tell your friend that once a year Japanese isn't enough. More like once a week! ;)
*Laura* Copy protection is crap. I think that artists who are fighting controls of downloaded music are right on the money. I mean, personally, I'm MORE likely to go and buy the actual CD if I can listen to it beforehand and determine that it's something I actually want to fork over the cash for. Rock on to Sloan for going against the record companies and joining bands like BSS to say that they WANT people to be able to download music. But then again, if they're so proactive in that respect, why the selling on iTunes?
I'd love to start a Fan Club. That would be solid. Like I always say, if anyone wants me to, I'm a very organized person (I'm a teacher, I have to be!) who would be dedicated to the cause. Hopefully Mike is reading this and scratching his head as the awesomeness of the idea penetrates into that creative brain of his.
Peace out.

This angers me.
As a non-user of ITUNES (I strongly disagree with their DRM policies and their refusal to allow ITUNES purchased songs to be played on any non IPOD player), I do not see why only users of this craptastic software/draconic media format are entitled to bonus songs while the rest of us are not. I'll probably be one of the first in line to pick up the album on the 19th and I am denied these bonus songs because I prefer to have a physical copy of the album rather than a locked down, lo-fi digital version. Do they think I'm going to buy a physical copy of the album and then buy it again in digital format for two extra songs!?!? Too many bands are sadly going this route. I'll buy your album in a store, but I'll be downloading these bonus songs without remorse should I happen to come across "grey market" versions of them somewhere on the net.

Gotta say...the US dollar sucks. I remember when I used to drive across the bridge in Detroit to get cds for half price. Those days is long gones.
Kel - September 1, 2006 12:01 AM
Ten-I'm not a big fan of the I-Tunes only bonus tracks myself. I'm just not into buying music online yet (I know, I'm slow to change). I also think I-Tunes blows.
Paying $22US for an import CD? Heck, I pay at least $22CDN for most of Sloan's stuff. America might not get Sloan first but, they get everything else (including damn cool yogurt flavors!) :P
Oh yah a big BOO-urns to copy protected CDs, and a big thumbs up to the Fan Club Idea-although I'd be happy to just to have a little extra buzz on Sloannet, like the old days. *sigh*
Alicia (lickthelime) - September 19, 2006 12:36 AM
just finished downloading it from itunes.... it's awesome, well worth the wait
James Benesh - September 25, 2006 4:06 PM
Ten: I agree with you big-time. I want the real thing, not some DRM-infested files of a format I prefer not to use. But apparently the only way to get those bonus tracks is to preorder the album? I won't have any scruples about downloading them when the opportunity presents itself. Hey, let me know if you find them!
