Sloan join Rolling Stones in Halifax
Rumors have been flying since the Rolling Stones announced their upcoming show on the Halifax Commons, September 23rd. We can finally confirm that Sloan have been added to the bill and will be happy to come home to Halifax to join this exciting concert. So far Alice Cooper and Sloan have been confirmed as support on this show
Sloan's new album will be released on September 19th, and this will be a perfect kickoff to our fall touring.
In January 2006, Sloan had the opportunity to play two shows at the Boston Garden with The Rolling Stones. It was a thrill that can only be surpassed by the opportunity to join them for such a great event in our hometown.

Aww man. I'm not a big Stones fan and tickets are ungawdly expensive just to go see Sloan (and Alice Cooper). Poop. Now I'm going to be itching to fork over $100 just for Sloan when I can't really afford it!
However, it is a great opportunity for Sloan and I hope they gain a whole new audience from this concert!
Way to rock it, Sloan!

Backstage at the Moncton gig (not what you think, waiting for the behind-stage boxes), I kept thinking while the Hip played, "It should be Sloan. Sloan should be playing. To see Chris and Mick on the same stage, one before the other, would be most entertaining." Mind you, Sloan playing their songs at album speed (and not the frustatingly slower pace that plagued their personally disappointing Dal show last September) is already entertaining. Put some life into it! Chris, bring the boys into the gym for the time that remains before your tour kicks off in Halifax. ;D Add some Faces licks to your Beatles influences. Make Mick proud (or envious). Friends in high places _do_ help. :)
Maybe I'll make even more certain to make it to what could end up being my 2nd RS gig in two years... without leaving the Maritimes! What's next, St. John's, Newfoundland?
Rock on.

What a great excuse to go down to Halifax and party with my sister for a week.
Oland's, Sloan, and Citadel Hill. I couldn't think of a better weekend.
Kind of a downer when I saw the price of the tix. To think the last time I saw Sloan it cost $20 and I got to see Joel Plaskett play.
Any word yet on other bands on the bill? Maybe some more East Coast flavour? The Trews would be a good one.

This should be a good show. Hoping i can go....who knows...have tickets anyways. and the rumors are still flying that Joel Plaskett will play as well. I hope that turns out to be true

I was watching CBC's 6pm news from Halifax for August 3, which available on the web, and after announcing the addition of the rapper to the Halifax show, they had a live interview with Chris and Jay in a video link from Toronto. Pretty funny interview! Thanks, CBC! I imagine that the 6pm news will remain on the CBC NS website until they update it with tomorrow's newscast.
Here's the link that should work until the afternoon of August 4: http://www.cbc.ca/ns/media/news/newscast.ram The interview is located at the 15:58 mark and runs until 20:50. Almost 5 minutes.
As for me, I'm awaiting the upcoming tour schedule, because I will see Sloan for the first time this year. Probably either in Vancouver or Victoria, but it'd sure be nice if they came back to San Francisco, only 90 miles away from me!

not a huge fan, not a hater - August 20, 2006 1:37 PM
oh good another semi successful local band being on a rolling stones stage when we deserve to get a huge name like Dave Matthews or Aerosmith.
Islander - August 26, 2006 5:39 PM

I.E. Sloan plus Trews,Matt Mayes,Great Big Sea.

I saw Sloan in Boston in January and they were terrible! Spent most of the time in the bathroom or hanging in the hallways, like about half the crowd did. So this time at least I'll get to see a real rock star, Alice Cooper, who has one of the best drummers in rock, Eric Singer( sometimes of KISS). That will at least help pass the time before the living legends appear. Sloan you should call it quits and go back to your day jobs, I bet your new album sells less than ten copies here in the States. See you all on the 23rd! Chip
