News from the Studio
Sloan have returned to the studio over the past few weeks laying down the bed tracks for a new album. They have been writing and recording demos throughout the winter and there is a lot of material to choose from going into this recording. It has been three years since the recording of "Action Pact". Everybody is happy to be working with some new songs and I expect that the results are going to be worth the wait.
I am rounding up some photos and video of the band working in the studio and we will be posting regular updates as the project moves along.
According to our current schedule, we will be back on the road in late-May or early June. Hopefully we'll see you at a show this summer!

Excellent news! Can't wait to hear some new tunes. It's been a loooong time coming! *ahem*... And more shows later this year! That would be so cool if you happen to be playing Calgary around August 21st/22nd....as I'll be there on those days! Woo! But if you're not, then we're on the road travelling from Calgary to Vancouver for the next couple of weeks. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to see you in YOUR homeland, instead of mine!
Keep up the great work guys and I look forward to hearing of more updates and seeing some Sloantastic photographs very soon!

Think of the possibilities......

Sounds great, boys! I look forward to Andrew's songs about changing diapers...or perhaps he's ready to explore that nautical theme he was talking about in the linear notes of 4 Nights?
ROBIN - February 28, 2006 4:32 PM
Thanks for the great news! I am soooo happy! Can't wait to hear some new Sloan. The thought will help keep me warm on these cold, cold Buffalo nights. Hope you come here this summer. Looking forward to new tunes, finally!
Take care and keep the updates coming.
Tell Jay that Haley would love to finally meet him in person. He's her fav. Personally I'm fond of all the guys.
Thanks, Mike.

<i>"Now is the time to ALSO release a B-sides/bonus tracks compilation. It is!"</i> I really think that is just wishful thinking, Monz. Will probably never happen. Bummer. But maybe if you push Patrick on it a little...
Good to hear things are still progressing, thanks for the update Mr. Mike.
(And give poor Mariko her Sloan Japan already!!!)
Anne - February 28, 2006 11:21 PM
Woooo! I hope the song Jay did in London (ON) will be on the album!

How 'bout an all Andrew album?
Also, when do we see a Murph/Andrew drum off? "It's been a long time coming".
thanks.
(poor)Mariko - March 1, 2006 3:12 AM
yup...Our Sloan street-team has been working very hard for SLOAN Japan tour. We e-mailed a lot (I mean...A LOT) to the promoter. Last year, Sloan had a chance to come to Japan with BOY, but it didn't come true.
*Jay, "I thought I was ready for you" is a brilliant song!
*Chris, it's so nice of you to support Nardwuar's DVD Release Launch!
Kathleen MacMaster - March 1, 2006 12:20 PM

Hi! Another Japanese fan is here!
Thanks for the great news Mike!
Yes! We are still waiting for SLOAN to come to Japan!!
Please set the date for Japan tour this year!
PLEASE!!
danada - March 12, 2006 11:48 PM
I can't wait to hear a full new Sloan album. I work in a music store, and because they knew I was such a big fan, they would play the "A Sides Win" album during a lot of my shifts. Music World Scarborough Town Center has a lot of love for Sloan (at least when I'm there). Too bad Music World has terrible selection for Sloan albums. But let's not get into that right now...
There's been a big musical void in my life for the past 3 years. I really need some new Sloan. This is great news!
Craig P - March 17, 2006 9:32 AM
Please tell me you are using a different producer than the guy who did Action Pact. Also, pleae tell me there will be Andrew songs and Jay ballads. They were sorely missed on the last record...
And...please stop skipping Saint John when you tour Atlantiic Cnada. We are the largest market in New Brunswick (and have the most vibrant music scene in the province)!

So did anyone catch the new Sloan song at iTunes? :(
You have to be registered with iTunes (free) and have the iTunes software on your computer in order to download it (yesterday, it was free... today?).
Yes, you noticed the sad smilie. My heart's broken. Up until "Try to Make It", I was a dyed-in-the-wool Sloan fan. I'm hoping it's a non-album track, and not the first single. Remembering the shock upon hearing "Money City Maniacs" the first time after thoroughly enjoying the "Twice Removed", "One Chord to Another" and "Songs Recorded Live at a Sloan Party!" albums, only to seriously warm up to it on repeated listens, I hoped my initial feeling would pass when I would hear it more than once. Maybe it's just me. I'm hoping it's just me.
Sorry guys, I can't cheer for you on this one. Still, I wish you the best, and I'm hoping my discomfort is only a one-song thing, after the addictive Action Pact.
KashGlenBarn - July 19, 2006 8:44 PM
Oh, and re: B-Sides/Bonus Tracks compilation
Not counting anything coming out around the new album (and presuming "...Sloan Party!" remains unreleased by itself in North America), there is enough _previously_ _released_ B-sides, bonus tracks, and scattered demoes/non-album tracks to fill 2 80-minute CD's, or four vinyl... and this was counted back in the "Pretty Together" days. Only two tracks in my tally aren't credited to Sloan: "Guidance Counsellor" and "Gimme the Keys". And only one hasn't appeared anywhere: "Snowsuit Sound (demo)" (originally slated for "Les Amis du Sloan" cassette release). Talk about something being "a long time coming".
Last played: Utopia - "Utopia". Great stuff if you're a fan of the more pop-radio-friendly Sloan side. Just thought I'd throw that in.
