While we don't presume to know the machination behind this honour, it sounds like it would be a fun chance to watch some kindred spirits exhibit their chops on some of Sloan's catalogue. Hopefully this will present a chance for folks to take the songs in new directions that we could not have previously imagined.
There are some additional details to be found on Chartattack.com.

And more HERE. There are some seriously fun bands involved in this, it will be a good time.
And a strip-tease to Pick It Up & Dial It? "People people! This is a poll!" That's sheer brilliance!

Sa-WEEEEET!
Sloanageness in The big T.O.! This is going to be awesome. Anyone know what time it'll get underway? And there better not be a restriction against minors... :P

I've given thought to putting a Sloan tribute band together (for fun of course) but am not sure how Sloan fans would react or even if the idea would be accepted by them.
Nikki - February 9, 2006 4:04 PM
This seriously sounds so cool! I wish I could be there to see it.
Have fun everybody!
Ruh - February 14, 2006 10:07 PM
Rick, from what I gather, I think most of us (i.e. Sloan fans) would be pretty into the idea. I would say we're a pretty fun loving bunch, no? :P
Rick - February 15, 2006 12:56 PM
Ruh, I would agree that Sloan fans are a pretty fun loving bunch. :)
If I could find a few other Sloan fans that play music it could be done. I myself think it would be something cool. Thanks for the reply Ruh.

Glad to hear it. ;) If I lived near you, I'd do it, but alas, I fear you are not a Calgarian. Maybe one day.

How bout some news on new material. I think we've waited long enough. I'm going through Sloan withdrawl. They'd better not just quit after this greatest hits album. I know they're still touring but you never know....
modmaid - February 16, 2006 7:30 PM
No worries Colin, they are far from done! They are about to record a new CD. Should see some results of their labor in the spring.
Lydia - February 17, 2006 9:11 AM
Hey! The show last night was really cool. Good to see Chris and Jay there.
I'll never look at Snowsuit Sound the same way again.
Ruh - February 17, 2006 1:28 PM
Leah, are we talking this spring or next :P?
GlassTigerGrl - February 17, 2006 6:10 PM
This Spring, Sources point to "YES"
Ruh- quit blowing my cover ;)
Keels - February 18, 2006 8:27 AM
there is an AWESOME tribute record that's been out for a while now where Detroit indie rock bands cover songs by SLOAN, ERIC'S TRIP, THRUSH HERMIT, SUPERFRIENDZ and lots of other Canadian bands
plumlinerecords.com is where you can get it, and I think you can order it through Sonic Unyon too.

My review & photos of the Tribute Show, for what it's worth - ARE HERE.
Thanks to all those who came out. And to those bitching about it elsewhere, lighten up and broaden your horizons a tad. Serious props to you, Chris & Jay, for braving the (occassionally) shark-infested waters that night at the Boat. It was all with love, with LOVE, dammit!
Rick - February 19, 2006 8:42 PM
Read the review and it sounds like it was great.
Ruh - February 20, 2006 6:15 PM
GlassTigerGrl - SORRY, hahahah! I totally didn't even realise you hadn't posted under your real name. Too used to your screennames by now. A thousand apologies.
Summer tour? I'm crossing my fingers til they break ...
Haywirerocksmyworld - February 23, 2006 6:39 PM
Oh Ruhee, you adorable one!
We will all hope for a Calgary all ages stop for you.
Who knows..Mind if I join you?
MIKE - February 24, 2006 4:00 PM
HEY SLOAN.
HERE IS SOME ADVICE:
RELEASE YOUR ALBUM IN THE SPRING. THAT WAY YOU HAVE THE SUMMER TO TOUR NEW STUFF. YOU ALWAYS RELEASE ALBUM IN LATE SUMMER OR FALL, AFTER WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD SUMMER OF ENJOYMENT FOR FANS.
I JUST REMEMBER BEING A TEENAGER IN 1996 AND DRIVING AROUND LISTENING TO ONE CHORD TO ANOTHER AND LIVING IT UP. OR GOING TO PATIO PARTIES IN THE SUMMER AND HAVING PLAY ON THE PATIO OR BACK PORCH. THAT KIND OF THING HAS NOT BEEN EXPERIENCED BY NEWER, YOUNGER SLOAN FANS IN QUITE SOME TIME OR EVER.
DO IT SOON
MIKE

Haywire - I don't mind at all except I can't figure out who you are! XD Clearly you are using a different username than I am used to or something.
