poor buffalonianites.
Chris - January 19, 2007 9:24 PM
That sucks
First i get to the club with no ticket. on the door it says sold out. And i am thinking oh shit. But it is for the tragically hip. I try to open the door and i wont open and then i see the dreaded sign.
My friday night is now ruined. Thanks town ballroom.
sarah - January 19, 2007 11:13 PM
Boo Town Ballroom. :( We had to find out the hard way, too, after an hour+ of driving in from out of town (in crappy weather). Grr. Was this a last minute thing? Sigh.
Anna - January 19, 2007 11:26 PM
Drove two hours in a snowstorm only to find out the show was cancelled. However, meeting Jay in the Fridays across the street mostly made up for it.
Can't wait for you guys to come back!
Anne - January 19, 2007 11:37 PM
Holy cow, that sucks, Buffalo peeps!!! I'm sorry.
cruz - January 20, 2007 3:46 AM
city government sucks they want to ruin businness in buffalo not promote it.... love you guys cant wait for march 13
Raindog - January 20, 2007 9:05 AM
Well....I drove from Rochester, through lake-effect snow, for a great night of music that never materialized. I'm really pissed off.
Raindog - January 20, 2007 9:54 AM
...the Townballroom has the March 13th date posted on their site as definitive but this site claims it is "tentative" ...anger.
Samantha - January 20, 2007 10:37 AM
I was disappointed ... but I met and got photos taken with Chris, Jay and Patrick! I had hoped to meet Andrew, too, obviously, but I was told he was watching hockey on the bus.
Mike Nelson - January 20, 2007 2:39 PM
I have it listed as tentative until we have a new contract ironed out and the club resolves its licensing issues. We want to return to play our show, and the whole band and crew feel bad about having to pack up without performing.

what a crock of s***. screw the town ballroom. this show should have been at Infinity like the last time. That show rocked! and what a great venue. Better lights and sound than the ballroom by far.
sigh. just more buffalo b.s.
scott - January 20, 2007 6:39 PM
My wife and I drove from 5 hours away. It was a birthday gift for her. I am pissed as hell...
bobsawkrowski - January 20, 2007 7:42 PM
Does anybody know what license problem the club had? I, like others, drove many miles to see this show and was very very dissapointed...I was @ the show in Buffalo some time back at the Infiniti...I agree it was a great performance! Very nice venue!
Raindog - January 20, 2007 7:55 PM
The guy who opened the door to say "sorry, but you're screwed" said the place didn't have some sort of "special event license" and the city showed up and said if they tried to have the show, the place would be shut down....some crap like that...I was already walking away....steamed.
Becky - January 20, 2007 11:45 PM
I'm crossing my fingers the show isn't on March 13th. I have a dress rehersal for a show that night, and I don't want to have to lie to the director.
"Oh, I have a... funeral to go to. Sorry!"
EEEEE - January 20, 2007 11:49 PM
"Special Event License"?? They hold shows there all the time, so what's any different about this one? I actually like the Town Ballroom venue--pretty cozy and being a short person I can actually see. I am looking forward to seeing Sloan when they come back.

People that run town are top people in the biz in Buffalo. The show will go off...bigger than ever now. They are stand up guys. Its the city. They just want everything to fail and they've been doing a hell of a job since 1959.
Robin - January 21, 2007 7:07 PM
I was incredibly disappointed. The only good thing is I got my daughter's pic autographed by Jay (her fave) and the album by the whole band. They were really great about it. A special thanks to Chris for spending nearly 1/2 an hour talking with my husband Gregg and myself behind the club.
I know you wanted to get hockey tix but the game was sold out, sorry Andrew.
I agree with Troy that Infiniti is a better venue. Maybe Mike will consider moving future shows there. But since we have tickets we couldn't use for the Town we hope they will perform there in March.
Thanks for trying Sloan! We love you and hope this will not deter you from future shows in Buffalo.

Well...I'm not saying everything is fine...but the Town Ballroom did write me a letter of apology...which was appreciated....you can check it out here: http://RAINDOG.JASONARENA.COM
DaveM - January 29, 2007 11:21 AM
NOT the Town Ballrooms fault. The guys who own it are friends of a friend and they are awesome!
Its the same old story with this city...I heard it was a last minute fiasco based on a paperwork snafu downtown.
Support your local businesses when the idiots at City Hall pull this crap! If you want good music in your city, stand up for the little guy who is making it happen!
Love you Sloan! Can't wait to see you.
Dave T.V. - January 29, 2007 5:49 PM
Isn't Club Infinity Howdees Country bar? Comparing that place to Town Ballroom is like comparing a McDonalds burger to rare Chateaubriand. The Tragically Hip didn't decide to two shows at Club Infinity did they?
I'm happy Sloan rescheduled and can't wait for the show.
Raindog - January 29, 2007 10:57 PM
HA HA Ha!!!! It was Howdees! That was my least favorite Sloan show ever...what a weird place....didn't like the vibe at all....as far as who is to blame...I know one thing...the way gas prices are....and the bad weather that was occurring that night....and driving in from out of town....well, one hopes there aren't any snafus and a ticket buyer in that situation shouldn't expect or have to put up with any snafus....that said, I did appreciate the Town Ballroom making an effort to conciliate with a letter. ...and they have brought in some good shows....
Shawn - January 31, 2007 9:49 AM
I saw Matt Good at Club Infinity and it was OK... wasn't a bad venue. But after I saw Sam Roberts at Town Ballroom, definitely a huge fan since you don't have to be way up in the front and on the floor to see. I was just chillin back by the top bar and relaxing while watching the show. TB is a great venue.
