2013 marks the year that Sloan's murderecords label turns 21 years old. In celebration of that landmark birthday, we are throwing a party during NXNE at the Great Hall in Toronto on Friday June 14.
Performing will be Sloan (for the first time playing the inaugural murderecords release, Peppermint EP, in it's entirety), The Super Friendz and Mike O'Neill (of murderecords alumni The Inbreds). Ben Gunning of Local Rabbits will be on hand to DJ thoughout the evening before and between the acts.
Festival wristbands are now available via NXNE, $20 tickets at the door.
To mark the milestone, Chris and I have been working on a book that serves both as a celebration of the twelve 7" singles released by murderecords during the 1990's and as a portfolio of Catherine Stockhausen's photography that documented the artists involved as well as the east coast scene at the time. The book will also contain a 7" single by The Certain Someones (super-group of Chris Murphy, Super Friendz' Matthew Murphy & Jale's Jennifer Pierce) that was recorded during the 1990's, but never released until now. In addition, the book will also come with a digitally remastered download of all 28 tracks contained on all the 7" singles (which have never been available in the digital realm before!) The book/7"single/download will be limited edition of 500 copies only. The book will be available at the concert.
Clipping at the heels of this project will also be another murderecords reissue ...The Super Friendz debut LPMock Up, Scale Down available on vinyl for the first time as a remastered, 180 gram double LP with gatefold jacket and digital download. Sounds better than ever! One of the best LPs of the 1990's. Also we unearthed an unreleased version of the song "Boots" that has been added to the LP. Once again, limited edition of 500 copies.
Our imprint murderecords began in 1992 as an outlet to release Sloan's Peppermint EP before we decided to jet off to test the major label waters with Geffen Records. In the meantime, murderecords became a platform for other underground artists from the east coast of Canada (and eventually beyond that border). While murderecords mainly serves as a home for Sloan currently, it was most active during the 1990's during which we released EP's, LPs and 7" singles by artists such as Eric's Trip, Hardship Post, Thrush Hermit, The Super Friendz, Hip Club Groove, Al Tuck, Stinkin' Rich, Local Rabbits, jale, Zumpano, The Inbreds & Elevator Through.

Today, Sloan are happy to release a 7" single of two original songs, plus a digital album featuring covers of 12 of their favourite hardcore songs from their youth. The package also comes with a t-shirt featuring images of the band members circa 1985, in the heydey of their punk fandom.
Full details of the package are available at sloanmusic.com
First up, check our tour dates for the next leg of our Twice Removed tour. We will be visiting theatres in our old stomping grounds in the Canadian east. There are some lifers on our list (Port Hawkesbury! Liverpool!) so please join us for a warm winter's evening of Sloan music if you are in the region.
I expect we will soon have more shows to announce through the summer and fall, so don't be dismayed if you don't see us in a hamlet near you at this very moment.
Secondly, I am happy to announce that there are a bunch of new photos and stories added to Kevin "Lamps" Hilliard's comprehensive (if not timely) tour blog: "Barely Illuminating"
And finally, I would like to thank everybody for their support of our Twice Removed deluxe reissue and tour, and remind everybody that while our vinyl copies are very close to selling out, there are digital packages available right here at Sloanmusic or on iTunes worldwide.
