Good news for fans outside of Canada: the album (and band) may be heading to your neck of the woods within the coming months. Pretty Together will be released in Australia sometime in March, with tour dates in April to follow. The album will be released in the US on April 9th, with tour dates following in May. There are also plans to release the album in Germany and England. More details to follow...
Congrats to the band for winning "Best Video" at the ECMA's. (Extra props to Chris for actually making the effort to "dress-up" for the nationally televised event.)
The band has been nominated for a whole whack of awards for the 2002 East Coast Music Awards (Album, Group, Rock Group, SOCAN Songwriter, and Entertainer of the Year). The four-day festivities (taking place in St. John, NB) begin Jan 31, and finish off with the awards gala on Feb 3. You can attend the awards by purchasing tickets at Harbour Station, Imperial Theatre and selected Irving Mainway Outlets, or by calling 506-657-1234 or 506-674-4100.
You can vote for Sloan as Entertainer of the Year by calling 1-900-870-ECMA (3262). There will be a .99 cents charge per call, and voting will continue until Friday, Jan 25 (5pm AST).
This year's ceremony will take a different approach by following a "multi-host format", with Chris Murphy as one of the acting "hosts". The Feb 3 ceremony will be broadcasted nationally on the CBC and CBC Radio Two.
For more info, visit the official website, or pick up Saint John's free bi-weekly Here for schedules, articles, and bios.
The video for the new single "The Other Man" is now in rotation at Much Music. You can send in email requests to any of the following:
Listen to a clip of Sloan's cover of "Waterfalls" (.RAM or .MPEG), featured on the "Listen To What The Man Said..." McCartney tribute. You can also visit Amazon.com to sample clips from the rest of the 16-track album. Fans can now order the cd directly from distributor Oglio Records, and read the official press release.
Re-live what will become the band's most infamous performance ever broadcast, either through video clips (courtesy of Antonia D.) or screen caps. Suck on that, Campanelli!
Vote now for your favourite artists (*cough*Sloan*cough*). Results will appear in the Feb '02 issue. Get crackin', crackies.
Synopsis: Halifax natives Sloan have been a band for ten years. Considering their history with a breakup, a band label deal and four distinct personalities in the band, this is a huge feat. They recorded their sixth studio album Pretty Together over the last year, and The New Music went on the road with them on their latest tour, and talked to each member as they hung out in Toronto.
Airdates: Nov 12 @ 9pm ET, Nov 18 @ 4:30pm ET (airing on Much Music.)
On Sat Nov 3rd, CBC Radio Two's Radiosonic will check in on the lads while in the middle of their North American tour. The program airs 7pm ET, 8pm AT, and 8:30pm NT.
