We are pleased to announce that Dearly Beloved will be support on our upcoming run of dates from Cleveland to LA and all parts in between. We will then be joined by the dynamic duo Hot Kid for our eastern run from Toronto to NYC.
We would also like to give some credit today to our good friend and colleague Gregory Macdonald, who has played live with Sloan for the past five years and has contributed significantly along the way. This one's for The Goose (Go Canucks)!
We've asked some of our friends about their favorite Sloan songs, but perhaps you'd like to chime in with your own picks in the comments.
CBC Radio 3 are running a Sloan Playlist Contest where you can select a dozen songs from throughout the Sloan discography as the ultimate Sloan playlist. Cool prizes to be won, including a meet and greet with the band (where you might well have to defend some of your selections).
Sloan's 10th album, The Double Cross, was released today. We are happy to hear all of the great response from friends and fans, and are looking forward to hitting the road later in the month.
This week we kick things off with a few press and promo appearances. You can hear a live performance of a few on the new songs and an interview with Alan Cross on Explore Music later today. Sloan will be the Friday live guests on CBC's Q, I guess it is redundant to suggest that you can listen to that on Friday morning.
For those of you in the Toronto area, you can catch the first live performance of some of the new songs from "The Double Cross" at our Sonic Boom instore on Saturday the 14th at 4pm. Sonic Boom is also a great place to buy Sloan vinyl. Please remember to bring a donation for the food bank if you are coming to enjoy this FREE performance.
As you may have noticed, we are in the process of updating our website and have opened a new store. Please come back over the next couple of days as we add all of the new XX merchandise to the shop.
We've also just launched a new series of videos, produced and directed by our dear friend Catherine Stockhausen. Here's the first one, expect the rest of the series in daily installments over the next two weeks.
With the release of our 10th LP, The Double Cross, a mere week away, I wanted to let you know that we have some limited edition items that we'll be adding to our online store in the coming week.
When we started discussing artwork concepts for the cover of the new album, Andrew came up with the idea of making some original physical art that could become the cover itself, as opposed to building the graphics with photos in photoshop. Andrew began by taking photocopied text and images of us and applying them to actual heavy matte stock, 'tip-on' vintage style LP jackets via a transfer process involving lighter fluid and some elbow grease, creating a number of one-of-a-kind black & white collages on each cover. Have a look at the photos to see the man himself hard at work.
Because it looked like so much fun, the rest of us got artsy and jumped in on the action with some tutelage from Prof. Scott. Before we knew it, we had amassed over 50 cover options. After careful deliberation and debate, we sifted through the many works that Andrew created and we chose the cover that we liked best. That's the one that you may have seen images of on the internet already with added yellow and purple colouring.
So what do we do with all the rest of these limited edition one-of-a-kind black & white LP covers that we handmade ourselves? Well, they'll be available via our online store with added limited edition prints and canvas LP bags and more. Deluxe! Rare! More news to follow.
