Sloan's Chris Murphy was thrown from his bicycle when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on the night of Friday, July 24th.

Chris is recovering at home having being released from the hospital the following morning. The impact resulted in a broken collarbone and an assortment of cuts and bruises. We're confident that he will have a full recovery and he has not sustained any critical injuries.

Witnesses were able to report the license number and model of the vehicle, and police are now investigating.

Sloan have had to cancel a number of their upcoming performances as Chris is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his collarbone. The band hope to be back on schedule by the end of August, and currently intend to return to the stage for their V-fest performance in Burl’s Creek, ON on August 29th. The band plan to resume regular touring in October.

Please encourage your friends to bike safely. Always wear a helmet and use front and back lights and reflectors when driving at night.

The lineup for this year's Virgin Festival in Ontatio has recently been leaked and then released officially in the press. Sloan are happy to be a part of the two day festival taking place just outside of Orillia, just north of Barrie, just north of Toronto, in Ontario, Canada.

Summer is finally here and Sloan kicked off their summer festival shows with a return to the Burlington waterfront last weekend. We've already announced most of our summer shows with a few more additions to be made soon as the concerts are announced by their promoters. Check the tour dates section for the latest listings. The municipal workers strike here in Toronto may keep our city's Canada Day celebrations to a dull roar, but just down the street in Mississauga, Sloan will be playing a free, all ages show next Wednesday evening.

In other upcoming concert news, Sloan's murderecords labelmates Pony Da Look will be playing this Friday in Toronto: PONY DA LOOK with NIFTY + ANIMAL MONSTER + DJ Adrienne Sneaky Dee’s June 26 @ 9pm.

Will Currie and the Country French have almost completed their first full-length album and will continue to tour through the summer. This weeks' tour stops include: Hamilton, Montreal, Sarnia and St. Catharine's. Check their website for details.

CBC 3 is a great online resource for the best in Canadian independent music and deserves plenty of support from musicians and fans alike. There is plenty of good company on this podcast!

As usual, Grant Lawrence officiates the mix and in classic form he manages to slip in a groan-y Sloan barb at the 23 minute mark. I suspect that Chris Murphy is already plotting his retaliation.

For those of you who haven't found it already on the web, our new video for Witch's Wand is now available on our friend (and director) Scott Cudmore's youtube page.  I will also be adding it to Sloan's Myspace page today.

Much More Music added it into medium rotation, and I'm sure that requests would help keep it on the air a bit longer.  Perhaps consider requesting at other music video outlets as well.  Not to dismiss the glory of internet video, but it looks even nicer on the television.

I am happy to announce some of the support acts on our upcoming shows.  We feel honored to have these bands on board, so please take some time to check them out online, and at the concerts!

Will Currie&The Country French - Will Currie's sextet will once again be joining us for a number of our Ontario shows.  You can catch them crowding the stage in Peterborough, Toronto and Sarnia.  They also have some shows of their own coming up in the region. 

Zeus - Fresh off a month of Wednesday's playing with our good friends The Golden Dogs at the Dakota Tavern, we've lured Zeus down the road to the Mod Club.  They will be first up on our show on Wednesday, March the 11th.  Definitely worth coming early. 

Hexes and Ohs - We had the pleasure of playing with Hexes and Ohs a couple of years ago in Montreal.  We're happy that they are arriving in town early for their own CMW showcase set at the Horseshoe on Saturday night.  Luckily we were able to coax them into performing on our Thursday, March 12th Mod Club play as well.

The Band Before Time - Halifax upstarts make the trek to Antigonish to give it their college try at St FX University.

Dave Marsh's True Love Rules - Marsh's album rocked the MRCH charts all fall, being played in it's entirety to kick off just about all of our fall shows.  We're really looking forward to having Dave and his band along for our Dalhousie and Sydney, NS shows.

It's my understanding that Friday's Ottawa show is already sold out, and Peterborough is almost there. 

The Toronto shows still have space, but with a limited number of Canadian Music Week wristbands being admitted, I would advise arriving early, or buying your tickets in advance.  As always with two-night runs, Sloan plan to mix things up in the set each night, so completists out there would be advised to try to catch both nights.

Our east coast university shows have varying policies when it comes to admitting non-students.  Please contact the various Students' unions for details.  And Saturday night club shows in Sarnia, ON (just down the road from Detroit Rock City)  and Sydney, NS sound like serious rave ups.  Hope to see you soon.
