Having been born in Toronto and listening to Sloan for many, many years, it was a pleasure seeing them in a small club in Nashville. I had been living there for a few years and took full advantage of seeing them away from Canada.
The opening band was The Sheila Divine, and they were great.
Sloan, on the other hand, were amazing. After a few beverages, I had decided to let these guys they they were in the presence of a fellow Canadian. I started waving my Canadian Passport around (remember, I had a few beverages in me). Thing is though, Andrew thought I was telling him that I had found his passport. At the end of the song, they were looking for the "passport guy". I was in the washroom.
Regardless, we hung "with the band" a little after the show and had a great time. The woman that I was with (that is now my wife) became a huge fan that night.
Incredible evening.
I know I saw Sloan at 12th & Porter earlier that year. I had just moved to Nashville at it was my first concert. Is there anybody who can tell me the date? They were still promoting "Navy Blues" and 3/4 of the band signed my CD jacket. It was the most rockin' show I had ever seen, but I am dying to know the date for my http://www.setlist.fm/user/TheDailyVinyl page.
