This was the only chance i got to see Sloan and WHAT A NIGHT !!! Held in my fave band venuethe Prince of Wales and opening with the first Sloan track i ever heard She Says.... i think my jaw never left the floor the whole time. Things that stick in my mind still very clearly were Chris' mighty kicks and his Jesus Christ Superstar t shirt, Pat's sweet black gretch, songs like People of the Sky, Marquee and the Moon, Sinking Ships. Amazing how clearly all this sticks in my mind. hoping they get back to Australia some day but sure aint holding out for it !
Still my favourite all time gig.
I still talk about this gig all these years later. It totally restored my faith in rock and roll at the time, I couldnt stop smiling through the entire gig. if only rock bands these days could have the same aura as Sloan. The Prince of Wales has never been the same since!
Agree that this was an awesome gig. Sloan closed with a memorably ferocious final bracket of songs. Kung Fu kicks galore. I remember the over zealous fan who Sloan asked to film the whole gig on handycam and took a very intense approach to the exercise. The way the guys kept swapping instruments and the mike was also an amazing sideline. Great night, great songs.
An incredible show, and one we all never thought would happen. Though it was so long ago, i remember so much of it!
I even had the good fortune of hearing the sound check in the afternoon where I remember Patrick was particularly grumpy (something about disliking touring). The show was a dream, i think the Melbourne crowd freaked out about the instrument swapping and general energy the band put out. Memorable to say the least.
