This was my third time seeing SLOAN and it was the best Sloan show that I have seen!!! The small atmosphere of the Western's The Wave really did make for an intimate atmosphere, plus the boys rocked the rafters off. My favourite song of the night was "The Other Man" because the guitars and Chris's vocals made for an eerily, sad-forlorn, and sublime experience.. Andrew rocked out again, but had to relinquish the drums to the opening band The Dears's drummer later in the evening because of an illness. I felt bad for Andrew, because he was trying so hard to make it, but just couldn't... though you should have seen the other drummer's face light up when he got the opportunity to play with the world's greatest band... he was just beaming! My girlfriend and I were standing on the balcony, front and centre for the show and it was an amazing experience for the both of us... Plus I got to "meet" Jay before the show. This is actually embarrassing for me to describe, but I was so star-struck that I couldn't say anything intelligent... Jay is a real nice guy, and was talking to these 4 blonde girls for what seemed like forever... and I didn't want to interrupt, then I just blurted out, "Whatever happened to HardShipPost (an early 90's New Brunswick band that used to be on Murderrecords) because I thought I would impress Jay with name-dropping an obsucre band that probably on he and I would know about.... well he said that they broke up a few years ago and hadn't heard from them in a long time... then the uncomfortable silence... I felt like an ass because I was one!! Then Jay went and got a Tim Horton's coffee, because neither he nor Chris drink booze... which i heard him say when I was eavesdropping, and left... oh well, at least I got his autograph, though I think I scared him a bit... Another thing... there was this guy named Fido who drove down from Michigan to see the band sitting beside us at the show making a bootleg recording on a MD recorder... If he reads this, he should email me because he promised me he would send me a copy!!
Damn the University Tour. I am from London and I missed two shows over the years because you actually have to go to Western to attend. Bogus.
