Fan Reviews

Hmmm, funny... I don't remember being the only person in the audience at this show? Oh wait, that's because there were 90 million other people there too! Riiight.
Anyway, I thought the show was brilliant. HarMar Superstar was fantastic *hahahaha*, and the Strokes we ok too, but I actually went to see my boyz, Sloan. Amazing performance! No pictures, I'm sorry to say. :(

This was not only the first (& only, SO far) time that I've seen Sloan, but it was my first concert EVER. (Yeah, I'm a younger fan, 16). I'm from Hamilton, & Sloan don't play here a heck of a lot & I was dying to see them. I had already missed them open for Oasis at the Molson Ampitheatre, because I had nobody to go with! Can you imagine??? I don't think you really want to. It's too frustrating.
But when I heard that Sloan were opening for the Strokes, & my friend Alicia loves the Strokes & SHE didn't have anyone to go with... we put 2 & 2 together & had a plan. We went, & had a blast! The Strokes were pretty good, but SLOAN kicked major ass! My pal Alicia even said "I now have respect for Sloan" after their set. She didn't know much about them before, but when she said that, it meant something. (She's more of a punker than a pop-rocker like yours truely.)

Unfortunately, with a crowd that was mainly there to see The Strokes, & I, as an amature concert-goer, I neither got up, nor danced OR even brought a camera because the venue info. at ticketmaster.com said that cameras weren't allowed. (Yeah, I'm that honest. When I heard that people sneak in cameras all the time afterwards, I was basically hitting my head against the wall. I was in the centre of row 16! Man, I fuming.) BUT, I was singing along at the top of my lungs & tapping my foot to the beat. Ya I know, I STILL should have stood up.* Ready for You & Reach Out were a pleasent surprise. And Sensory Deprieviation!!! That made MY night! They did only play songs from Between the Bridges & Pretty Togther, but Chirs informed the audience about this politely before they started. I was a bit disappointed, but recovered very quickly out of excitement. Can you REALLY blame them though? Can you imagine how many times they've played Money City Maniacs & Underwelmed??? A LOT, so they have my understanding anyway.

Well, I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with SLOAN's live performances & hope to see them again. Unforunately, I had to leave RIGHT after the show because it was a weeknight (ya know, school & all) & I didn't get to meet ANY of the rockin' guys from SLOAN!!! But, on the way out my friend & I were chanting "SSLLOOOOAAANNN" back & fourth with this other group of people until we couldn't hear each other anymore. (This was on the way out to the parking lot -- we were walking in the opposite direction of the other group of people.)

All & all, SLOAN totally kicked ass & you could tell that their years of playing has really paid off, specifically in their live performances. To SLOAN: I hope to see you guys in Hamilton or Toronto soon! I got the new album "Action Pact" on Tuesday & it's AWESOME!!! You guys have really expanded yourselves as individual artists & as a band. As an owner of all of your albums I could tell that you guys were trying out some new techniques in your singing, song writing & instrument playing. ***Best of luck with the new album, & always*** SLOAN ROCKS!!!

Wow. This show was amazing, and imagine my surprise when, two weeks after buying tickets to see my (then) second favourite band, The Strokes, I found out that my (permanently) favourite band was opening for them. Like the person before me, it was my first concert and it couldn't have been more perfect. The energy that Sloan emits during live shows is amazing and I couldn't believe that no one would stand with me! (not that i could see everyone...*cough*) Anyhow, after seeing Andrew, Chris, Jay and Patrick (diplomatically alphabetical) on stage, it almost seemed pointless to stay and watch The Stokes (but I did). Sensory Deprivation had to be the most amazing thing since I don't know when, as were the others, even if Patrick's mic kept cutting out...*tear* Anyway, I'll definately be seeing much more of Sloan, hereafter known as the most talented band since Rush... :)
P.S: There aren't any pictures because my film didn't role onto the barrel of my camera. Sorry? You better believe I am. To think I blinded Jay for no reason...
