I heard Sloan was playing a free show for the frosh at Niagara College, so my friend and I decided to make the trek from Hamilton back home to Niagara to check them out again. When we got there they had just started playing. I was really disappointed in the crowd. It seemed like everyone was dead. I guess thats the disadvantages of playing a free show for people who may not be fans. Anyhow, I loved the show. Sloan rocked out some great tunes from Pretty Together and older stuff too. It was definitely worth the trip.
I was at this show as well and couldn't believe the general lack of enthousiasm. I took the day off work cuz it's not too often your favourite band plays around the corner from your house!!! They sounded great (like usual), but the best part was after the show. They all stuck around and hung out with about the 10-15 fans that were hanging around. This was my first opportunity to meet Andrew, which turned out well. They had a bit of time to kill because they were playing in London that night. Over all, it was a fabulous experience, with or without enthousiasm from the other concert goers!
hi y'all. yeah, the niagara college frosh show was just too cool! i'm a tile layer who was working a contract at the college when they played, so needless to say, i put down my tool kit for the day.
in defence of the crowd, which was pretty large,i just felt as though they had a hard time just letting go, perhaps due to the fact everyone was sober and the outdoor site was bathed in sunlight. a true sloan fan, such as myself, had no problems getting into such an energetic and tuneful gig. of course, i had a CD ready, just in case one of the boys seemed inclined to autograph it. lo. and behold, all four members of sloan signed my Twice Removed inner sleeve(on the group shot photo to identify themselves--so thoughtful!). one slightly embarassing note, i was so stoked at meeting the band, i had a brain fart when i asked jay about the (then) new CD--HAPPY Together!!! i bit my tongue when it came out, but jay graciously corrected me.i wonder if he thought that i was a turtles fan...i went straight to the seaway mall to buy PRETTY Together, to appease my guilt.
