What an amazing show! The boys really showed off their stuff: an amazing amount of material (107 songs to choose from) and the ability to play them so effortlessly and have them sound so good. I would have liked to hear them jam it out a bit, since they are obviously capable of doing so, ya know, and there were some faves left out, BUT, they kicked butt on what was played. It was nice to hear the new material for the first time live, and great to hear some of the old tunes too for us old-time Sloan fans, even I Am the Cancer off of Smeared :) The only downside was the drunk who really got in my face and ruined at least a couple songs for me, including my all-time fave (Everything You've Done Wrong). Thanks to Chris for asking me if I wanted him out of here and then getting him out of there! It's awesome that you are interested in the comfort and enjoyment of your fans at your shows :) You ROCK!!
the sloan concert at the vogue in vancouver was awesome!! the band was soo cool.. they totally made eye contact with members of the audience many times and even waved and said hi many times. jay even told me he liked my shirt while he was playing a song!! and after the show.. we met them and they were totally awesome!! also a big shout out to the best opening act ever - CUFF THE DUKE!!!
Just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to Sloan for the best night of my life. :D The guys put so much amazing energy into all their songs! It was my first time ever seeing them live, and I was completely blown away. They were so into it and were interacting with the audience amazingly, and every single song they put out was incredible! Thanks a ton, guys, and come back soon, 'cause I'll never forget this for the rest of my life. (no pun intended. :P)
Just wanted to say thanks to Sloan for ANOTHER great concert last night! As per usual, they rocked the house and obligingly played a great diversity of songs (I don't think that I have jumped up & down so much in my life)!!!! Met Chris & Patrick after the show, both of whom were very cool and personable. Also caught the after hours jam and got a chance to meet Andrew and Jay, two other great gentlemen! So, thanks again for keeping me entertained! I look forward to many more years of unbelievable Sloan music!
best conert ever! i loved it! almost all my favorite songs were played which is awsome, there was alot of energy in the crowd too, so that helped, but then again, how can you NOT have alot of energy when your seeing sloan! thanks for the autograph Chris, i really apreciate it, sloan is my fav. band, and im NOT just saying that, i only have 3 albums but its all good;), I have only been diggin' sloan for about 6 months, i found twice removed in my CD collection and i have NO clue were it came from, but after i heard it i fell in love.... but this is a concert review, not... a place to do what it is im doing, sloan, you guys ROCK live, yeah, sloanstock
I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING THIS MORNING AND I LOVE IT!
Thanks Chris, Jay, Patrick and Andrew for the amazing performance - I loved the venue. Being able to stand at the stage and experience the show with you made it all the sweeter. I have been a fan for close to 10 years now, and your music has traveled with me as I moved from Calgary to Ottawa to Van. Your music has played to the script of my life. Your show last night was once again just what I needed. I am old and married now (we are all aging eh?) and last month my husband and I lost our first baby. Needless to say it has been the lowest time of my life.
I haven't been able to get to a show for years, so I decided that I just had to come and sing along with you last night - I even brought along a new 15 year old fan. I know you are all just people like me, but last night was the first time I have felt "happy" since this nightmare. I was able to forget, even if it was for only a few hours and rock my heart out with you.
So thanks guys. Thanks for doing what you do and thanks for continuing to play for us. I know life on the road must suck. I hope that the influence you have on fans like me makes it just a little bit worth it. You made me feel a part of what you do last night - you made an old fan remember why I keep coming back.
I love the new album and just replaced Twice Removed and One Cord to Another as they have just gone in and out of my stereo one too many times.
Keep on rockin' in the free world, with much affection, Lis
P.S. Patrick, I hope that cold leaves soon.
I'm finding it hard to find words to say just how much I loved the show on Friday night, and the only word I can think of to describe it is 'sublime'. It was simply incredible, and I've been listening to Sloan since they started making albums. So, it was one of the best nights of my life, so far, to finally be able to see you guys live.
THANK YOU FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO! :o)
Can't wait to see you guys again!
Ah, That was a wicked concert, i couldn't hear right after it..It was so loud and awesome..But if your looking for a mashing concert dont go to sloan, its alot of clapping and stuff, thats not bad, but ya..And the securitys tight..So be careful..But overall, what a great concert..I enjoyed it very much...
I moved to Vancouver at the start of October 03 from Australia. I've never had the chance to see Sloan when they have visited Oz and to my excitement i found out that they were playing 2 weeks after i arrived and only 2 block from where i was now living. i was not going to miss this oportunity. I walked for 45 mins in the rain to buy tickets for my lady and myself. The show was the 'the best Jerry, the best'. The new songs were great and the old stuff was fantastic. Thanks Sloan for a thoroughly rockin Friday nite.
great photos nikki!
Let me tell you about my weekend.
SLOAN STOCK
I decided just hours before going to the sloan concert that i would make a sign. I wanted everyone to know what this eventful weekend meant to me. It meant that I would get to see my favourite band, Sloan, twice in two days. So, I called this Sloan Stock.
The show was amazing! I was really impressed by the way Chris handled the drunk in the front (although the security people actually just moved him further back, close to where some friends of mine were sitting). Thankfully, however, I was at the front and wasn't bothered by this. The opening band, Cuff the Duke, was fantastic and created a good atmosphere for Sloan to come on to.
I was pleased to find that they played a good mix of their old songs, as well as new ones off Action Pact. The intimate setting of the Vogue, made it the perfect venue and, I have to say, that the two best parts of the whole show were when Jay and Chris winked at me! It was an awesome show (it definitely made standing outside in the rain worth it) and I can't wait for Sloan to return to the great city of Vancouver.
