Fan Reviews

Show was off the hook! I was suprised how these guys were able tear it up. Great show

I had never heard of these guys until last night. We showed up late to avoid seeing the opening band. What we didn't know was that there were two opening bands so we ended up catching Sloan. They rocked!! These guys are going to be huge. By the end of the set everyone in the Fillmore was cheering. I can't wait to see these guys when they come back around.

I spent last night at the Fillmore absorbing what I could of the amazing show Sloan put on. I hadn't seen them live before, although have been listening to them since I left Toronto in 1994. The show was off the charts. I hung onto the stage barrier, front and center and shook as Andrew rocked, Jay hammed, and Patrick really showed off his talent on the strings. My very blonde and very tall sister who I was there with (front and center) wants to quit her job and follow the band around. Slo-oan! Slo-oan! Slo-oan! These guys really rocked...

I was at the SF show last night and it was simply amazing. Of course Jet rocked...but a band I had never heard of was the best treat of the night!
Sloan was phenomenal...definitely adding them to my collection. Hope to see you guys in this area again soon.

Thanks for the awesome show!!

Went to see a Jet show and left blown away by Sloan! No offense to Jet who put on a great show, but Sloan owned it last night! Bought a copy of the new album last night, love it! Will be buying more! Hope to see you guys again!

P.S. Very cool to see the KISS stickers, I can see the band's influence in your performance!

First time seeing Sloan, went to see Jet. Sloan was great. Fab guitar work. Loved it when lead sing/guitar switched with drummer. Both did INCREDIBLE work!!!!!!! Never have seen that happen. I'll be watching for their return to San Francisco.

Sloan won the hearts of some hard core Jet fans last night, as evidenced by the exponential increase in cheers and people contributing to the Slooo-an battlecry over the course of the set. It was a good blend of new songs from AP and some classics dedicated to the "old school" Sloan fans. The two of us enjoyed converting those near us (about third row center) into new Sloan enthusiasts. As for us, we needed no convincing, and look forward to more SF shows more like Slims a couple years ago--packed with dedicated fans!

here's my best attempt at remembering the setlist...

Ready for you
Live on
G turns to d
Money city maniacs
The good in everyone
Sensory deprivation
False alarm
Gimme that
If it feels good do it

the show was short but awesome -- a packed house that was definitely digging sloan. brought my canadian flag -- was hoping to get a chance to wave it during the rest of my life...

there were a few sloooooan chants coming from the back and the front of the fillmore before sloan took the stage, and when chris started getting into it with the crowd, it got a pretty great response from everybody...

the sound quality in the venue could have been a little better for sloan -- seemed like lots of white noise was backing up every song. but it didn't matter -- sloan rocked the house down!

poor jet...here's Tresca's take:

Jet made a point of thanking the Everyones for opening for them on tour, but not Sloan....that's because they got blown off stage by em.

Come back to the Bay, Sloan!!!

Well, I was at the Fillmore Tuesday night for one reason, to see Jet. Knew nothing about this band opening for them... Sloan??? Let me just say that you guys put on a fantastic show and won a new fan. Pure rock and roll energy! Some others in the audience who arrived late were yelling in my ear "who are these guys? They're great!" You left Jet with a hard act to follow as I would guess you have done with every show on the tour. I noticed that a few of the Jet members were even off stage watching your show and definitely into it. Was also great to see you take the stage with Jet for the encores on the last night of the tour.

The next day I got right online and purchased two of your albums. I will have my eyes open looking for you to show up on a bill in the San Francisco area again.

Thanks again for a show that gave us fans what live rock and roll should be all about! Cheers.

Since there aren't any entries (yet) for this awesome show, I'll jump in. (I'm lazy, so I'm just copyin n' pastein' my notes from LiveJournal)

- The Fillmore (best.. venue.. ever) audience was surprisingly full of Canadians/Sloan fans, doing the chant and waving Canadian flags. I forgot for a moment it was actually Jet headlining.

- Mr. Murphy had a Todd Rungren thing goin on, in a good way. I was charmed, I'll have to admit.

- It was the final show of the tour, and they truly looked like they were having an AWESOME time. Best of all, during Jet's encore, all the Sloans and a few Everybodys joined them on stage for a crazy long jam to Jet's "Move On" and one other song I didn't know (a cover, I think?). Much windmill guitaring, hairshaking & microphone licking, the boys were like kids in a candy store and the audience went bananas for it.

The Sloan set was too short and they didn't play many oldies, but what can you do when you're alloted only 40 minutes, I guess (we were fangeeks in the car on the way to the show listening to "Twice Removed", I was kinda dissapointed they didn't play any from it. boo hoo me).

(Sidenote - Jet, eh, they were pretty good, but the rocknroll 'tude was a tad contrived/over the top. Nic Cester is going to blow his voice out with all that screeching & smoking. Maybe they're just enjoying their youth, I dunno.)

I'm a full-fledged fan now, so Sloan - come back to San Francisco soon!

Came to see Jet and left a Sloan fan. ROCK ON!!!

Sloan blew Jet off the stage by rocking super hard...in their inimitable way. The set was amazing..that crazy bass player sure can play drums. Come back soon so you can do more than seven songs. We're Sloan deprived on this coast.

I was so happy to be able to catch Sloan this time around. I missed the last few shows here because I was out of town. This was one of the best overall shows I have been to. It doesn't top the time I saw Thrush Hermit open for Sloan at the Main Event in Toledo. It probably would have been the best one had Sloan been the headliner. I'm sure they will be, the next time around just from the way the crowd reacted. Props to Jet. They also put on a kick ass show. SLO-AN...SLO-AN!

I went to the show to see Jet not having heard of either of the opening groups. My hopes weren't too high for Sloan after seeing The Everyones, as I was starting to question if Jet was pulling the age old trick that bad live groups use of hiring two horrid opening groups to go on before them so that they sound good by comparison. Boy was I wrong. Sloan came out and absolutely owned the stage. As soon as the first song started the crowd kind of perked up and we were at Sloan's mercy from that point on. I loved every minute of Sloan's set, and with all due respect to Jet who also put on a great show, discovering Sloan was what really made paying double face value for scalped tickets worth it. I bought Action Pact the next day on iTunes (I don't bother with CD stores anymore), and the album is awesome. Sloan is definately the best band that I've discovered unexpectedly at a live show.

Don't be afraid to come back, guys, I'll be there for sure.

I can't believe I missed this show. I've been listening to sloan a lot lately and I was like...I gotta find out when these guys are coming to town...I've seen them a few times before and they always put on a great show.

Wait!...come back to San Francisco Sloan!

P.S. I am not Canadian..Sloan just really rocks me.

My first time seeing the band live after being an avid listener for several years. My experience at this show echoes many others chiming in on this gig: Jet fans left as Sloan fans also. One guy saw me singing along to the bridge in "Maniacs" and grilled me for several minutes before Jet took the stage as to which albums he should start with, how I heard of the band, etc.

Great set, fellas. Can't wait to see a headlining gig soon.
