Thought I'd add my comments since no one else did. Sloan went out on a limb playing sunday night in foreign territory. Two opening acts may have been too much, but the band "Everybody Else" definitely reached out to the Sloan crowd and was one of the better opening acts I've seen.
Sloan took to the stage quite late (after two acts and lots of time required for stage setups), however rocked the packed Casbah crowd (albeit a small venue). I've only been to a couple of Sloan concerts in Canada but this was an awesome intimate venue filled with sloan fans.
Keep up the good work, we miss you here in California. You guys brought a tear to my eye.
It was tough draggin my ass out to see Sloan on a Sunday night by myself but it was worth it. The first band was god-awful but 'Everybody Else' turned it around with their Holister-style pop show preping the crowd for the main act. Ladies and gentlemen... Sloan! They hopped on the small stage and thrilled us with their familiar raw pop-energy. This was the third time I've seen them live and San Diego has some tough crowds but the crowd that turned out on this night rocked until the lights went on.
The opening band was atrocious, but the second band wasn't bad and finally we got to see the band most of had come out to see. The acoustics for the Casbah aren't amazing, and I heard the show in my head for a week, but the show flat out rocked. Sloan was better than anything I had ever expected of them. They had set the bar so high with their studio material, I didn't think they could top it. But they were brilliant. They were all very nice and after the show they signed their set list for me and I took it home and put it on my wall. I didn't even know Sloan was coming until the day before when I was wondering if any good bands were coming and checked ticketmaster. I hastily called a friend and gave him his first dose of Sloan. He loved it and I gave him my CDs to listen to. The show itself: A+ The men were all at the top of their game and it showed. It was great listening to their songs and talking to Andrew after the show. I also got Chris to sign that red Sloan shirt with the Rest of My Life lyric. :)
I was very impressed with the live showing. Alot of bands can't even replicate their studio sound live, but you guys went far and beyond with surpassing the CDs. Some guy drove from Arizona to see you guys. Thankfully it was only 20 minutes for me. The Casbah wasn't a great sounding venue though. I think you guys could have played at a couple of other places and gotten more oomph out of your sound there.
Thank you so much for the experience. It was worth every penny and I hope the next time you are within driving distance I can get to the show and see you guys rock out again.
