The Grand Rapids show was a true test of our boys mettle. This lame ass, conservative town with no decent record stores or radio stations did not properly promote the arrival of Canada's embassidors of rock. Consequently, only about 200 people showed.

The Kicks were more than adequate as an opening band. I'll probably pick up their cd.

Sloan was terrific. I've seen them about 9 times now and even though the crowd was small, it was full of true fans. Sloan did not disappoint. They played a lively, tight set (heavily loaded with material from the new album which sounded great). The light show was cool. The band really seemed to enjoy themselves and as a fan I did too. Thanks for not punishing the fans that did show up for the actions of the rest of our pathetic town. Rock on. See you in Detroit.

I'll wager that the only reason that Sloan booked this particular gig was because of their 2002 visit to the old Intersection. What a night that was! So Sloan must be asking themselves, "Where were you, Grand Rapids?" Good question. But despite the anemic turnout, the guys took advantage of the new Intersection's amenities and really put on a great show for the faithful. And that's who DID show up: the faithful. Those who were there seemed to be die-hards, and they were treated to a spectacular gig, man. Much tighter than the Bowling Green show two weeks back. The Detroit show will really be a corker. And I would imagine the Chicago show should be well-attended too. If you are considering attending either of these gig, by all means go. They are on top of their game right now.

Also, the opening band, The Kicks, were terrific. Love em.

See you in Detroit?

Andy P.

PS: Pictures to follow.

I had been waiting six years to see Sloan. It's a good thing they were amazing!

Sloan isn't played on Grand Rapids radio stations, and I hadn't heard anything about the show other than on this website. So... there were about 200 people there. Andrew said it was one of their smallest shows. Even though there weren't many of us, the crowd was really into the show.

Afterwards, my friend and I and a drunk girl waited outside for the band to come out. Andrew was first. He stopped and talked to us for awhile before going into the bus to watch the hockey game. Patrick came out and we talked to him for a few minutes before he went on the bus. Andrew came off the bus a few times after that to talk to us. Chris and Jay were the last ones out of the venue- almost an hour and a half after the show. "You've been waiting here all this time?" Chris asked us. We talked for awhile, and then he asked my friend and I who was driving the drunk girl home. We had just met her that night, but we were the only ones left at the place, so we gave her a ride.

The guys are wonderfully nice and down-to-earth, which is something you don't normally get with successful musicians. Thanks to Sloan and everyone who was at the show for one of the best shows I've seen in a few years!

What a great show!

Being Canadians living here it was great to see some Canadian content in our current backyard. The turnout was not what we expected (knowing the following back home) but it was nice to not have to fight to get to the front.

We enjoyed the mix of new and old songs and hope to see them again soon.

Thanks so much for putting on a great show. You rocked it out in front of a small crowd and that makes us the audience feel special. Thanks. Oh, and thanks for taking my Leafs jersey (my nephews actually) and displaying it with pride on the speaker.
Come on Calgary, bring the cup back to where it belongs!
Thanks for coming out to chat with us Chris, that was cool.
You've all got my continued support.
Later,
Phil

I just wanted to say thanks so much to the band for bringing some kick-ass music to Grand Rapids. It was a stellar blend of the old and the new. Thanks especially to Chris for taking the time to hang out and talk with my buddy and I before the show. (and for adding Penpals to the set list! Thanks man!) :-) I am still pissed though about the lame turnout, but as everyone else who posted said...they definitely were the faithful. I know how hard it must have been for you guys to "get up" for a show like that, but you gave it your all for the people there, and THAT is why your fans are so loyal. It was a great show, and again thanks for a spectacular evening. Best of luck on the remainder of the "Star of David Tour" (Nice description of the travel plan Chris! LOL)

I was at the show and thought it was great. The turnout was *a little* less then the show in 2002, but since this is the "new" Intersection, it's a lot bigger, and sort of dwarfed the crowd. The turnout would also probably have been better had they not been playing in Chicago & Detroit soon after. But anyway, Sloan put on an absolutly great show. The setlist was similar to the other shows on this tour, but great none the less. Grand Rapids was very lucky to get Sloan, please come back.

ps - GR does have a GREAT record store, called Vertigo Records. Check it out, it rules.

I can't believe Sloan came back after the "Pretty Together" show at the old Intersection, which I thought was not very well attended. I'm glad they did, as the show was excellent. They played most of Action Pact. All sounded great and some songs that I thought were just OK on the CD were brought to life when played live. Mixed in were some great favorites like "The Lines you Amend", "People of the Sky", "Pen Pals" and others. It's too bad Grand Rapids radio doesn't play Sloan because lots of people missed out on a terrific show. I hope the poor turnout doesn't deter our Nova Scotian friends from a future visit.

I wanted to go to this show soooooo bad. I had been waiting to see Sloan {or even find any CDs in stores around here in MI - blah!} for about 6 years - I found out about them on a Launch CD that came with my now 7-year-old computer.
I'm sure the Grand Rapids show was awesome - I was sitting in a super-boring, incredibly long Senior Recognition Assembly for school. {I got my honors award, that was enough!} ;)
I'm lucky that I got to go to the Chicago one though at the Metro... :D
