Well, who says your can't get nuthin' for ten bucks these days!! I thought the show was mediocre at best, but for ten bucks, who's really complaining...except for me!! Patrick had a terrible night...he forgot lyrics, he looked confused at times as to what he should be playing...not his best moment. Jay looked disinterested, but then again, when doesn't he. Chris was his normal goofy self and Andrew looked pissed, like someone stole his hubcaps before the show. They did play some crowd requests, like "She says what she means", but it was a short set, over by 11:30pm w/ an opening act. The bar was a sh*t hole, but it was intimate with a nice high stage. All in all, it was better than sitting home watching MNF, but when you drove from Toledo to Columbus to see the show, it was a bit of a let down...but what do you want for ten bucks, right???...........
Thanks for bringing rock n roll to the city of Columbus! It was a pretty lively (and loyal) crowd for a Monday night. Plenty of highlights: Money City Maniacs (as usual), Chris' rock poses, "Feels Good Do it, etc. Unfortunately, no Everything You've Done Wrong. Oh well, you guys'll be back sometime, eh?
P.S. I can't believe "The Other Man" was written about U.S. Presidential hopeful, John Kerry!!! Wow, who knew you guys were backing him before his nomination!?
good show, guys. you seemed a bit tired though. it was a good song selection and i was happy to hear "c'mon c'mon" and "she says what she means" (i was the guy shouting for "suppose they close the door"..maybe next time, guys?). i was also the guy who drunkenly told chris that Pretty Together is an underrated masterpiece (it's true) and that his bass line for "the great wall" is aces. i don't blame you guys for being tired though, touring can be a real drain. the show was only ten bucks and you guys always put on a better show than any other lame-ass band. see you next time through columbus.
This was *such* a bonus for me - since your show in Chicago in May, I'd been planning to go to the Austin City Limits Festival and was so excited that Sloan was going to play - THEN....you announced you were coming to Columbus only 4 days before....and I was on cloud nine.
The show was great. When the opening band started - the crowd was very small...and I was happy to see it grow as the show went on. Thanks for coming to Columbus - I know we're not a usual stop for you, but we do appreciate it when you come through - and you'll always find me in the audience....singing and smiling.
As for the harsh review I will agree that it was a short set for those of us who traveled. And that bar was a sh*t hole. But what music fan doesn't enjoy a good sh*t hole bar to catch a great band? It was a SLoan show and was worth every minute between the yellow lines. The cover charge only sweetened the pot. I had a blast at that show. I bet you sang unnecesary harmonies along with the rest of us Bob!
I know john and he is a drunken fool. It was my first sloan show and the size of the show made it all the more special. They slipped up on a couple of songs but how often do you get the chance to see the masters of rock and roll at work. After talking with every member except Andrew i also notice what fine upstanding, humble canadians they are. KEEP ROCKIN SLOAN!!!!
