Another great Sloan show last night!! This was my 4th Sloan show, and they never disappoint. Good mixture of songs as well. It's always a good show when you get to hear "Coax Me." Chris was nice enough to sign autographs after. Hoping they'll keep coming back to DC!

It was another good show, I never expect anything less. Hooray for the Capitol Years! I can honestly say from experience that Sloan is one of the best live bands ever. IT WAS GREAT TO HEAR SONGS THAT HARDLY EVER GET PLAYED LIVE! & yea to the manager for aiding in the 3 guitar attack. Patrick is so excellent on the guitar that he makes it look so effortless, and it was good to see Jay smiling!!! After all of these years Andy still plays as furiously as he always has. Chris is always so cute when he takes off his glasses and gets "serious". Gone are the days when they used to fly off when he sat behind the drums :-D As always, thank you! More, more, more please!

This is my firth or sixth Sloan show, and they always kick ass all over the place. This is just a fantastic band, and they shine when they play live.

I'm sad the crowd was small -- I know Sunday's are tough concert nights, but come on -- this is SLOAN. I, myself, acted like it was a Saturday night and, while I'm in some pain today, it was well worth it. Along with the show, Murph signed my Palais CD with the infamous bubble letters.

I'm concerned the band didn't have a great time. They must keep coming back to DC!!! Please, guys, chalk it up to a summer Sunday in a city dead during the summertime!

I'd love to see them in NYC tomorrow; I have a ticket to the Bowery and a train ticket in hand, but alas work and a new boss will keep me D.C. bound.

Good luck, have a great tour, and know that the folks who love you in D.C. really, really love you.

Wow what a show! This was my sixth Sloan show (4th at the Black Cat- the neighbourhood seemed somewhat improved now). They seemed to be having fun this time—Chris was especially funny and there was a good amount of banter with the crowd. Patrick and Chris each sang 6 songs (they duetted on 2), Andrew 3, and Jay 2. Jay even talked to the crowd a bit, not sure I've heard that before.

Early on in the show, when Chris called for the audience to sing, he made a funny face and exclaimed, “a small but enthusiastic crowd.” That was a pretty accurate description, although the floor was pretty full of fans. By the end of the show, the crowd could be heard singing along pretty strong with everything they played.

Their manager came out to jam with them on guitar during the encore of Sensory Deprivation, which was kind of neat-- they were really into it as was the crowd.

Did anyone else notice that Chris was out in the crowd unnoticed watching several songs of the opening band’s set?

Here's the setlist, I think I have the order pretty close to correct:
I Was Wrong
Underwhelmed
Live On
Lines You Amend
All Used Up
Coax Me
Money City Maniacs
Before I Do
People of the Sky
Try to Make It
Poor Boy
Suppose They Close the Door
Friendship
Everything You've Done Wrong
Rest of My Life
Good in Everyone
---
Sensory Deprivation
Other Man
If It Feels Good Do It

I came all the way from Houston and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt... signed.

After the Houston show last year I had a shirt and set list signed by everyone but the elusive Andrew. I brought them to get inked in DC, and was not let down.

The bass player Chaz... I think that's his name (the guy with the glasses), upon hearing my problem and that I traveled for the show, took me on an Andrew hunt (my first!).

Eventually we found him and he was more than happy to complete my signature collection!

Thanks so much guys! [My offer for free personal training stands, but if you guys keep putting on shows with that much energy, you won't need it]

THE SHOW

-amazing (duh)

-by the end of the show, the crowd was really into it (cool)

-they took a "lunchbucket" approach and played a TON of different songs, not just those that made the radio (great for all fans)

-overall great energy, LOTS of fun (I'm not sure if the band feeds off the crowd or vice versa, but everyone was having a great time)

-no one ever mentions The Capitol Years, but they too did a great job (once my ears stop ringing I'll listen to their latest CD)

Cheers

Great show! Enjoyed hearing the songs from all phases of Sloan's career. Looking forward to next show. Anyone got the setlist?

Had a great time at the show. Hope to see y'all again. Maybe next time the arm will be all healed up! Thanks for the fantastic show...

Ok, this was my first time seeing Sloan, although I have been a fan for several years.
<p>
At first, I was really impressed how uncrowded it was because people always say it is best to see your favorite bands at small and uncrowded venues. This proved to be the case.
<p>
I snagged a set list at the end, although some of it was changed by the band:
<p>
"Losing California" was changed to "I Was Wrong"<br>
"Underwhelmed"<br>
"Live On"<br>
"The Lines You Amend"<br>
"All Used Up"<br>
"Coax Me"<br>
"Money City Maniacs"<br>
-------------------------<br>
"Before I Do"<br>
"People of the Sky"<br>
-------------------------<br>
"Try To Make It"<br>
"Take Good Care of the Poor Boy"<br>
"Suppose They Close the Door" <br>
"She Says What She Means" was changed to "Friendship"<br>
"Everything You've Done Wrong"<br>
"The Rest of My Life"<br>
"The Good In Everyone"<br>
--------------------------<br>
"Sensory Deprivation"<br>
"The Other Man"<br>
"If It Feels Good Do It"<br>
<p>
A few interesting notes:
<p>
It was such a small crowd for such a great band, but that didn't stop Sloan from putting on such an amazing live show.
<p>
"Suppose They Close the Door" was a song I never expected to hear, and it was very awesome to hear live.
<p>
"Take Good Care of the Poor Boy" seems to be a pretty obescure track from BETWEEN THE BRIDGES, but one of my favorites, was glad to have that in the set list.
<p>
"Friendship" was a good choice, I've been really into BETWEEN THE BRIDGES lately.
<p>
Also, I could feel the excitement amongst the crowd upon hearing "Everything You've Done Wrong" which is such a perfect pop song.
<p>
I also really liked the other new song from A-SIDES WIN, "Try To Make It".
<p>
Another surprise was, I expected to see Chris play his seemingly signature Fender Mustang bass with the racing stripe. I guess he always uses that Gibson bass now.
<p>
Also, I got to talk to Chris after the show and that was really awesome. I never realized a band as great and well known as Sloan could be so easily accessible. I was standing right in the front and they were so close. It was just a great night and a great experience, because they are my all time favorite band. I even got to have actual conversation with Chris and told him about my own band.
<p>
Anyway, great work guys and I hope I can see you play again in the near future. Please keep being the great band and live performers that you already are.
<p>

I'm sorry if I post on here because I haven't went to this show or any of the others but I can't help myself to comment on Pat's little diary. I'm just going to say that: I'm sure the rats were glad with your presence, anyone would, eh?

Noah:

Yes, I did notice Chris watching the Capitol Years too, he changed his outfit and he was wearing the sneakers that I swear are the same ones you can see in cover/pictures throughout the 4 Nights CD.

Sloan provided a superb live version of their hits and a few rare gems at the Black Cat on a steamy Sunday night. I, long-time fan brought both a neighbor who last saw them at Parlee Beach in Shediac (open for the Beach Boys in 1991?) along with my cousin Toby from Germany, a 22-year old stones fan.

Like clockwork Sloan was Sloan, playing –solid, inspired, eclectic rock- playing most of the new release mixing up new and old songs. The crowd was into the show, which had its best moments fly by with Patrick doing his set in front of some serious looking punk rockers, and Chris waiting until the last song of the encore for a high-kick. As a fan, it was great to finally hear "Sensory Deprivation" live with a manager on guitar to boot. The highlight was Jay rocking on "Take Good Care of the Poor Boy". Patrick played a great version of “I was wrong” to start off. Chris’s storytelling keeps evolving, another winner with “try to make it”.

It seems obvious that each band member could make their own greatest hits album, but together they seem to transcend the tradition rock band. Each band member contributes to produce a collective greater than the sum of their parts If possible, they keep getting better. Anyone up for a double concept album?
