Am I honestly the only Vancouver fan whos gonna post about freakin awesome and sexy you guys were. Cause you were.
I was the cute redhead with the KISS shirt who drew you guys the fabulous pic of you guys in doll form.
This show was insane, for a fairly small venue the crowd was soo pumped. The set list was amazing. Marquee and the Moon was sooo good, as was Deeper Then Beauty. My only requests would have been G Turns To D, and The Life Of A Working Girl. But this show was just amazing, and I am going to see you guys every time you come to Van.
I think it was awesome that Chris came out and said hi to his fan before the show.
HOLY SMOKES. I haven't missed a show in about 10 or so years, and I think this one was the bestest. Songs from all the albums, I liked showing off to all the young'uns and recent fans knowing all the words to the 'Smeared' and 'Twice Removed' songs. AWESOME energy, Chris was such a rock star.
Cheers!

great show, played some good oldies.
I have a picture of the set list and of the show , that i will post soon.
Wow guys, as usual, a phenomenal show. It was an amazing selection from all albums, and although I've seen you live about 10 times now over the years, I got to enjoy songs I haven't seen live either EVER or not in a long time anyway. Thanks for the energy, the passion for rock 'n' roll you show, and for guiding us through memory lane through this sampling of the Sloan music history. Like your new amazing DVD (which I purchased today!), got to reminisce of those great songs I enjoyed when I discovered you WAY BACK in high school (around the time I learned that "underwhelmed" is NOT a word)!
So you know, I'm the chick that always stands stage left (Patrick's my fave--amazing guitarist whose talent I admire), and wears her somewhat worn out and tattered Navy Blues T-Shirt :) I was the one that was trying to have a conversation with Chris before the show but was rudely interrupted by a drunk and psychotic chick! Oh well. Oh, and girlie who drew the cartoon, I was the one you were chatting with.
As usual, Sloan took care of their fans: whether it's visiting them in the line-ups before the show, having us sing along, or helping to get rid of 'problem fans' in the audience. I love that about Sloan. It's never about them, but always about the fans and giving all they have for their fans.
Highlights for me had to be The Lines You Amend, and Deeper Than Beauty.
Thanks guys, come back soon--you're always welcome in Vancouver. I wish I could make it to the Victoria show too!

First time I have seen Sloan, although been listening to you for a while. Probably one of the best live shows I have seen. Sloan is a Canadian icon. Well done boys.
I am soooo lazy...I can't post my review again. If anyone feels inclined, please visit my blog at www.myspace.com/nhoshal and check out my review and photos. Great show though guys, A for effort.

This show was incredible! The crowd was really into it with lots of sing-a-longs. Sloan had loads of energy and seemed to be having a good time. I really enjoyed hearing some songs live for the first time, like Suppose They Close the Door, Snowsuit Sound, and The Marquee and the Moon. Thanks, Chris, for being so accessible to the fans after the show. Sloan shows are so much fun! I feel really fortunate to see these legends in their own time (not at all over the top ;) Come back to Vancouver soon! We love you!
Great energy, great variety of songs, and really a fun performance, but the mix was way too loud. It was hard to hear the harmonies, guitar licks, etc. Also, the crowd was too drunk... same problem at the last show I saw. However, it was great to see the band still going strong, they are really fabulous performers and musicians.
hey guys , why didnt you post the pics from the vancouver show at the commadore yet? Im sure everyone would like to see em.
I have been a fan of the band since 1992 but this is the first time I ever went out to see a Sloan show (I don't get out much). What a treat! The band was just superb on stage. Chris does act like a rock star (he licked the mic stand), but in his casual clothes he seems just like any of us who might be playing air guitar in our bedrooms. Patrick looked the part of the cool rock star. Jay, chewing gum through most of the show, could have been in a country band with his appearance (I don't mean that in a bad way). And Andrew positively kicked cow skin on the drums. It was like watching Godzilla rip up Tokyo. I was a little disappointed not to hear much from the latest albums but I guess the band has played those songs to death recently. Lots of older material and very good to hear The Marquee and the Moon. Chris came out after the show and talked to people. My girlfriend was so totally impressed with his kindness and down-to-earth personality she now has a major crush on him. Jay came out a bit later but security was trying to get people to leave. Would have liked to meet Patrick too. We are definately going to see a Sloan show again and this time we're bringing a camera!!!
It was pretty damn amazing to see a girl crying and taken away by the fuzz in handcuffs before the show. I would have never expected that.
it was a worth 4-day trip going to see the show from Japan! too bad i wasn't able to see the Seattle show, but next time i really want Sloan to rock the audience in Japan!!
i've sent a couple of pics already but they haven't been approved yet...? meanwhile i put loads of pics (most of them are out of fucus, though) on http://sloan.oops.jp/live/050505/
(it's all written in Japanese)
They may have a few grey hairs these days (except for Chris, who must sleep in a hyperbaric chamber or something - or at least, that's the rumour I'm starting - because he has not aged a day since 1992), but Sloan still delivers some of the best live performances I've experienced. Period.
While we were waiting in line outside the venue, Murph came out to sign a few autographs (I geeked out and got him to sign my Twice Removed CD) and pose for pics with fans. A nice gesture and very much appreciated.
Once inside, I was fortunate enought to get a spot directly in front of the stage, between Patrick and Chris, which was also be a great place to watch Andrew attack his drum kit. I was even able to sneak a peek at Patrick's setlist and noticed that he had his guitars listed beside the songs (JR, Gretsch, Tele, V). That black Gretsch is so pretty.
Unfortunately, I also ended up standing beside an incredibly drunk girl who kept pestering me to help her sneak backstage. Yeah, right, lol! I think she was eventually kicked out (or maybe just passed out in the ladies room?). However, I think she did talk to Chris outside the venue and requested "Snowsuit Sound" (one of my all time faves), which wasn't on the setlist, but they played it anyway. So thank you drunk girl!
The band came on shortly after 10 and gave a really energetic performance of old favourites. Chris sadistically made the audience sing the lines, "It's not the band I hate, it's their faaa-ans!" during "Coax Me" (which always cracks me up). About halfway through the set, when the crowd was thrashing around, I was getting smashed against the stage and feared that I would be pushed right into Patrick (he had his leg up on one of the monitors directly in front of me at that point). On the bright side, this was a good spot to view his shamrock belt buckle up close. *blush* When the lights came up and the dust finally settled, there were smashed bottles and pint glasses everywhere (I don't understand why the Commodore doesn't serve drinks in plastic cups) and over 900 dazed fans with ringing ears.
Definitely one of the most rockin' shows I've seen in recent memory. I was torn between seeing Sloan in Vancouver (and Seattle) and flying to Chicago to see friends and catch the Wilco shows at the Vic, but I definitely made the right decision!
BTW, I also got a chance to talk to Jay briefly after the show. When I asked him about Coachella, he said that they enjoyed playing there and were pleased with the response. I told him that I'm always trying to turn my American friends on the Sloan, and he said, "Well, it looks like they showed up."
I was just checking out reviews of other concerts and it sounds like the votes are in for Sloan as the best rock band alive (no surprise, we Sloan fans knew it all along). I also noticed people posting set lists. Looks like some of my favs were omitted from the VC show, but it was still rich in prime-rib Sloan. The order isn't exact but here's what I got.
Loosing California
Underwhelmed
Sugar Tune
The Lines You Amend
All Used Up
Coax Me
Money City Maniacs
Before I Do
On the Horizon
She Says What She Means
Everything You've Done Wrong
Try to Make It
Suppose They Close the Door
The Marquee and the Moon
Snowsuit Sound
The Good in Everyone ("This is our last song," said Chris before they played this one. Then came the encore.)
Deeper than Beauty (opened the encore)
People of the Sky
The Other Man
If It Feels Good Do It (closed the show)
Twenty songs I counted. Wished I could've heard Sensory Deprivation but maybe next time. Hey, was Action Packed really so bad? I liked a lot of songs off of it. Looking forward to the next album, however. And maybe a rarities/b-sides someday, hmm?
See you guys again!!!
