Opening band, The Stills, were great despite the small crowd early in the evening. They played well, and won over the crowd despite some equipment problems (I think they rocked the bass-drum apart).
Sloan gave a fine performance, but it was overshadowed by a few nasties who threw stuff on stage. One of our sources has a photo of the dick who threw a beer at Chris...
HEY! I just got back from the show, and it was awesome! But I would like to take the opportunity to appologise for my fellow islanders who decided to "share" their beer with you, Chris...terrible. Don't hate us, we're not all morons!! Great show, and take care!
There's a lot to say about the show, but I'll start with the setlist:

Losing California
Underwhelmed
Live On
The Lines You Amend
All Used Up
Coax Me
Money City Maniacs
People of the Sky
Try To Make It
False Alarm
Ready For You
Everything You've Done Wrong
The Rest of My Life
The Good in Everyone
----
Deeper Than Beauty (not on setlist)
Sensory Deprivation
The Other Man
If It Feels Good Do It

This was a fun evening, although it was tainted by a few arses throwing things (usually beers) on stage. Chris was getting cheesed and at one point even left centre stage to go take refuge behind Andrew's kit. As it turns out, that wasn't such a safe place either, because a little later someone lobbed a nearly full beer and hit Andrew. He was pissed. Jay came over and gave the guy a nice sweeping finger. When they were leaving the stage after the main set, Andrew walked up to the mic and challenged the guy to meet him outside.

We were a little worried that they might not come back for an encore after that. It was a while but eventually Chris and Patrick came back out. The stage was already set up for Andrew to sing Sensory Deprivation, but Chris picked up Andrew's guitar and the two of them played Deeper Than Beauty with Patrick on drums. Then Jay and Andrew came back out and the did the encore set.

When they did the "This song is dedicated to you", the caught themselves and said "most of you."

After the show we got the setlists and went to the bus. Chris was outside and Jay came out after a little bit, but Andrew came and shut the bus door. I guess he was still upset and I don't blame him. BTW Andrew, I have heard that someone snagged video of a confession from the guy, so if you're feeling vengeful I can hook you up.

It's been 8 years since Sloan played PEI and Jay assured us that despite the crowd that it wouldn't be another 8 years before they came back again. The two of them seemed to have gotten over it by this point and had very much of a 'these things happen' attitude.

Andrew broke a string during Before I Do and cut himself a little. He still finished the song and handled things well, but that was before the beering incidents.

The crowd was a bit of a letdown I guess because of not quite 'getting' a lot of the Sloan traditions. Like the Slooooannnn chant for example was a pretty hard sell. There weren't many who caught the proper singing parts for People of the Sky, and other things like that. So much so that Chris said he had actually noticed me in the crowd getting the chants going and stuff.

All in all though, it was a very good evening, despite the hooligans. The band played great and I had a blast. And coming away with a setlist signed by Chris and Jay doesn't hurt either.
Well, where shall I start... was pleasantly surprised by the opening act ''The Stills'' ( typo on the ticket stubb as ''The Spills''... brilliant) They made up for missing JOel Plasket, who was supposed to open for Sloan on their last tour in Fredricton! good sound... people filled in just in time for Sloan to come on... they ripped and rocked through opening with Losing Cali, underwhelmed, Live on... (how about I give you the whole run down, seeing as how I got Patrick's set list?) okay...''All used up'', coax me, money city...(its about here that some lame ass threw a cup of beer on stage, getting the boys ticked off) before i do, people of the sky, try to make it, false alarm , ready for you, everthing done wrong, rest of my life, good in everyone,(another cup of beer thrown on stage by moron), sensory dep., other man, feels good do it. That's the whole set list... Well, I 'll just say, it was so cool to have the Sloan boys back on the Island. They freakin rock and great for them to make a stop over here. I was embarresed , though to have to call myself an Islander last night because of the drunken 1 or 2 pikey-knackers in the crowd who acted like complete idiots. After the show got to chat with Chris and Jay - thanks guys, have a good show in Halifax and great tour.
Matt
I finally saw Sloan for the first time last night, with The Stills as an opening act. The night *could* have been great, instead of just really good, if it wasn't for the the moronic behaviour of a few drunk losers. Some were trying to mosh and push people around which was anoying, but more or less contained by security. Then there was the pinacle of idiocy -- some coward threw a beer cup and hit Chris in the face.
Chris said he'd like to get his hands on the guy -- and he wasn't the only one. A lot of us were pissed. But those of us that stuck around for the band to finally come back on stage were pleased and rewarded that the guys decided to keep their spirits up and still try to have a good time. The show rocked more than some of the idiots in the crowd deserved it to.
Thanks Sloan, and we hope you don't hold it against us. Come back!
first of all i'd like to say how awesome this show was! i was so excited when i found out sloan was playing and i had been counting down the days 'til that night...i certainly wasn't disappointed. i would've liked to hear "nothing lasts forever anymore" but their set still rocked.
there were a few dicks in the audience who threw beer cups and were shouting stuff but you could definately tell that the people who really wanted to see sloan were overpowering those people by going absolutely bonkers. i think the guys in the band realized that their fans weren't going to let a few morons ruin the night.
i met chris and patrick after the show and they are the coolest guys. chris stayed and talked to us for ten minutes or more and signed autographs and posed for photos. really a stand-up fella.
sloan has a lot of fans here in charlottetown and i hope they come back around this way to put on a great rock show once again. i know i'll be there.
to anyone who may know, is there any way i can post photos here? i got some cool shots from the show and i'd like to share them. oh and if by chance either of those two tall dudes see this, i have pictures for you guys. you called yourselves the twin towers or something and you said we should exchange e-mails but you left before we could. anyway, hope you see this. bye.
i found the link where i could add pics, so disregard that from my last post.
hey, thanks to the people who posted the set list! i will now go and listen to those songs in that order to try and re-live the night! my girlfriend was actually talking to andrew right after they stormed off stage and, although he was understandably ruffled, was apparently really nice, even posed for a picture with her. i'll try to get some pics from the show up soon when i can put them on a computer. and again, if anyone from sloan, or anyone who may be talking to sloan in the near future, reads this.................................
PLEASE COME BACK TO CHARLOTTETOWN AGAIN!!
oh and the stills were great too!!
I too just want to add my two cents on the beer throwing incident. It's too bad that this has overshadowed what was an excellent night. Cheers to the band for returning and finishing up, and hopefully this will not be your primary memory of PEI. We would all like to see you return again, good luck with the rest of the tour.
I've dreamt of hearing Deeper Than Beauty in concert for the longest time. I almost gave up hope until i read the set list! Is it back?
Lets hope you guys go above and beyond the call of duty when you play a Sloan-only gig in Toronto!
*sighs*
Hah. Sorry. I wasn't at the show, (regretfully! sniff, sniff). I just wanted to basically say/type outloud how ironic it is that, given how eventful this show apparently was, there are no pictures posted! Please! If anyone has any juicey pics that would satisfy the nosiness and gossipy nature of deprived fans like me, please...don't hold back!
