I dedicate my sobriety to Sloan!!!

Thanks for playing I'am the Cancer. It was a pleasant surprise. The new songs were great! I can't wait for the new record so I can put it in my record machine. ;)

Okay, I wasn't actually at this show; instead, I was vacationing in Nova Scotia and used the occasion to bend my girlfriend's ear with Between the Bridges as we were driving. She has Nova Scotian heritage so I think hearing the geographical reference in "The N.S." caught her attention. She's reluctant to compliment my music but voluntarily played it a second time later.

Somehow this feels like an accomplishment. Then again, maybe I just need a hobby.

This show was amazing. They played everything so well. Now what i would like to say is thank you guys so much for play I Am The Cancer. Before the show started, a couple of friends and I were standing around the sound booth in the back and we look over our should and we see that Jay is right behind us. So we turned around and started talking to him about the new album, and about upcoming shows and what not. Then I asked him if they were going to play any songs off of Smeared. And he says that they don't really play too much of the old stuff. But then he asked me what i wanted to hear, and I told him that I was dying to hear I Am The Cancer. He then told us that they reheares it a couple of times but don't play it live too much. But what song did they play during the encore? I Am The Cancer. I was honestly in shock.....it took a couple of seconds to click that they were actually playing the song i was talking to Jay about an hour before. After the show he was outside of their bus and i walked up to him and said thank you for playing the song. He told me that the band was trying to figure out what to play for the encore and somebody suggested that song, and he then brought up that he was talking to a guy in the crowd about the song, and the band then said that they would play it. And if the band is reading this once again I say thanks guys.....and hopefully i'll be able to see you guys again.

WOW! amazing show guys! i have loved sloan for quite a whle now and had a blast seeing you at the ovation music festival last year and couldn't pass up the opportunity to see you again in bala! what an amazing venue, the sound was incredible. Despite how young i am(21) i have seen my fair share of bands and music festivals( over 75 bands to date)and am so overly impressed by sloan and howmuch fun you guys are having performing. You can actually see in your faces that you are having as much fun as the crowd, which makes it even better for us. I was front row at the kee right in front of jay and was having a blast watching him laughing at us and playing his heart out. But still the topper of the night was getting the opportunity to meet Jay outside the kee in front of the bus, got some wicked pictures and of course couldn't leave without giving him a couple kisses! I love you guys, keep on rockin', hope to see you again soon!

I think Patrick should band diary this one. : )

The Kee is an enigma. That stinking venue has a 12 foot-high stage, smells like stale beer and yesterday's lunch, and shows there are always filled with boozers (many of whom don't even know or care what band they're seeing). I found an old messageboard entry of mine last year where I said that I would not likely go back to the Kee again. But.. yeah well, I did.

It's all about Sloan. I can't think of many bands I'd make that trek, to that venue, to see. You guys always seem to bring a little sumpin-sumpin extra to your Kee shows. It's almost like you don't really give a flying f@ck about things like the "correct lyrics" and the "correct chords" as long as everyone is having a good time. And I personally would much rather have a fun albeit sloppy set where the band is clearly having a blast than one that feels like a chore to get through. Thanks for pulling out the seldom-played treats and the 2 NEW ANDREW SONGS!! -

- So Beyond Me (complete with Pentland lyrical goofups, my friend's special request. The song... not the goofups.)
- The Good In Everyone
- The Lines You Amend
- The Rest of My Life
- Everything You've Done Wrong
- Ready For You
- Something's Wrong (NEW Andrew song, first time ever, I believe!)
- People of the Sky
- I Can't Sleep (another new first-time Andrew song.)
- Losing California
- The Other Man
- Who Taught You to Live Like That (which sounds 100x better/huge-r live)
- All Used Up (with more goofups)
- Coax Me (with humourous fried-Murphy-voice high notes)
- Money City Maniacs
- Deeper Than Beauty
- She Says What She Means
- I Am The Cancer (*thank you*)
- If It Feels Good Do It (with new version of the mic stand lick which involves knocking his nose into the stand a lot. 3.5/10 on hotness scale, sorry Chris).

In conclusion (if you are taking notes): at the Kee you will get a dock full of gullible drunks, a floor full of sticky litter, a lawn full of cop cars, a crotch full of sparklers and a REALLY good time despite yourself.

Some photos from this show on Flickr slideshow HERE. They are kind of funky, but I already whined about the stage/venue so you get that point.

Again Sloan did not disappoint. This was my third time seeing them and although it felt like they weren't on for very long it was still very enjoyable.

I managed to get my hands on a set list after the show so here it is (with the encore added to the best of my knowledge):

So Beyond me
The Good in Everyone
The Lines You Amend
Rest of My Life
Everything You've Done Wrong
Ready for You
--------- Andrew on Drums, Jay on Bass, Chris on Drums ---------
Something's Wrong (New Album)
People of the Sky
I Can't Sleep (New Album)
-------------------- Back to Original Instruments --------------------
Losing California
The Other Man
Who Taught you to Live Like That? (New Album)
All Used Up
Coax Me
Money City Maniacs
---------------------------- Encore -----------------------------
Deeper Than Beauty (Patrick on Drums, Chris on Guitar)
She Says What She Means
I am the Cancer
If it Feels Good Do It

Thanks again guys for a great show, a long encore, hanging out with your fans, and putting up with many a stupid drunk person out front. Can't wait for the new album!

Brilliant show. And I have to say, the sound was great compared to last year so whoever did your sound, stick with them. I just downloaded "Who Taught you to Live..." and as good as it is, your live performance was even better. You are such incredible live performers, such energy (Mind you, I think there Chris threw in a few less rock star kicks this year..)

Looking forward to year 10 at the Kee next year.

I'm a long time fan, first time caller. The show was great in what is always an excellent room to see a show. Excellent sound, the band was really into it. I was impressed. Jay and Patrick were great. Dr. Shrugs had seemed to have shaken his worries from the previous Wednesday. I thought Andrew Scott was a maniac on the trap set! BOOMING sound and power. I'm now looking for the next date to catch the band. However, next time I hope they play for much longer. In Bala, Sloan came on at 11:35 pm and finished, including encore at 12:40 am, without a word of a lie. I was quite disappointed since we doled out good cash, and most other bands come on earlier, and play later. Thanks for what you did play guys. PEP

The show was fantastic and I didn't even get beer spilled on me! A show full of friends and a set list to die for! I knew "So beyond me" was coming, my most grateful thanks <3...BUT what I wasn't expecting was "I am the Cancer"- Thanks *guy* at the show for suggesting it. It was my first chance to see that one live! I was also very pleased "She says what she means" has returned to the set lists.
Thanks to Andrew for debuting a few new ones for the Kee crowd.
The crowd chant competition between Chris and Patrick was reminiscent of Paul vs Mike at Loverboy shows-LOL-:P
The area of Bala was just so lovely, the venue was full of Canadian music history and Sloan ROCKED the house. Maybe Bala is an annual trip for me..If Sloan is there-I am so there!! My thanks again!
