WOOO! these guys were awesome!!! good show!!! wish the whole band came for autographs but got a picture with the lead singer ;)
Amazing, my first time seeing you guys live.
Ever more awesome after the thunderstorm passed.
It was definitely a good time overall. It was somewhat of a tough venue. It seemed like there were just as many people looking to get loaded and laid as there were fellow fans there to see Sloan show. Based on the 1 review of what sounded like an amazing show the night before in a small venue in Halifax, the energy from both the guys and crowd perhaps started off a bit lower than expected. Coax Me built some early energy from the crowd, but Chris's comment "We're going to play another song now from our new album, so you're gonna have to deal with it" summed up the vibe early on.
But the band that has been going for 16 years did what a band that has been performing for 16 years does best. They then began to impress and win over both casual observers and loyal fans with a new, albeit less familiar, string of tunes. Andrew got lots of mike time. There were some great Guitar moments from Patrick and Chris was entertaining from the drummers position, making it very clear how tight and in sync the band's sound can be, even with alternating positions. Andrew did have a tricky moment or two on guitar that prompted a grimace from Chris watching on drums. Jay seemed relatively upbeat, and Partick continued to do his thing in the efficient and workmanlike manner that is his trademark. Cmon, Cmon was somewhat of a surprise, but good to have heard live for the first time.
They then started to really hit us with the singles as the set progressed...all of things people came to hear. People of the Sky was appreciated by older school fans. As would be expected, Money City Maniacs went over well, but the crowd flubbed the sing along which took away from it slightly.
The song of the night was without doubt The Rest Of My Life, which saw the crowd get into it the way you really want it to. Throw in a good response to Everything You've Done Wrong, and an exuberant performance of The Good In Everyone and they had the crowd loving every note.
The encore was short but the energy was good. Closing with a borderline frenzied rendition of If It Feels Good Do It, they definitely ended on a high. The true fans were satisfied, but I definitely would have loved to have heard more.
I was holding out some strange hope for Deeper Than Beauty, which I have never heard live in the four shows I have seen. I was gagged to hear that they did it at The Marquee Club the night before.
The last show I saw before this one was in Halifax at Junofest in 2006. That was without question the best, highest energy & most memorable rock show I have ever seen. This Jubilee show was a great time too, I've been singing all day today and am already looking forward to the next time I see the band.
Keep it going guys....Sloooan......Sloooan!!!
This is an awesome show, it looked like it was gunna rain but it hold of and your guys put on a hell of a show, i was up front for the whole thing and man did you ever get the crowd pummed. Come back soon!
Sloan was awesome!!!, They should have headlined! I honestly didnt know a lot of their songs, but I love them all after seeing them play! I even got to shake chris's hand, which was wicked! Come back to the Jubilee again next year!!!
What a fantastic show! The downpoar right before Sloan took the stage could not dampen our spirits.
I liked the mix of new and old, plus the giant screens helped with visibility issues (especially for us not so tall folk). i had a great time rockin' out in the back with plenty of room for dancing.
I want to thank Sloan for a great show in New Glasgow and I also would like to that the town for making it an all ages venue which allowed me to take my 11 year old son to the show. The band was extremely energized and managed to cram almost 30 songs into an amazing nonstop set.
Also a big thanks to Chris who posed for a picture with my son in the afternoon before the show. Drew is still floating.
I was lucky enough to be back home to see TWO Sloan concerts in a row! Both the Halifax and New Glasgow shows rocked! They played my favorite song (Deeper than Beauty) in Halifax which pleased me more than I can express! The New Glasgow show, even though it rained it rocked the house solid! The next day I saw Chris at the airport! WHoooo!! Talk about making my vacation complete! Keep on rockin' Sloan!
The show kicked ass!! So much live energy. The best part was when the crowd sang "I know that I'll be living in Canada!" After the show, my friends and I met the Murph!!! Also, that night was the last night I spent with one of my friends, she recently died. Great memories. ROCK ON!!!
