Aging hipster checking in on last night's show. It was amazing.
The chance to see Sloan, one of my top ten bands (7 of them are disbanded or have lots of dead members!) in one of the birthhalls of indie rock, with all the drunken frats boys gone, how the hell can you pass that up?? The crowd was small, this is the dirty south, and the 40 watt is in a rough spell, but those in attendance were true fans, we had no issue rousing the Sloan Army chant. I would have paid 50 bucks to see them without the drunken college kids, and I know they lose money in the southeast, so a HUGE thanks to them for stopping by.
One funny moment, Chris asked the crowd to count down the records from now to 92, at least 1/2 the crowd had them all, then he asks "Who has kids over 10 years old?" and at least 10-a5 people raised their hands. If I was ten years younger, I'd go to Nashville tonight, but I'm not, and my partner would gut me if i did. We're all getting older....
Man what can I say, they still have it in spades. New record is the best thing since the trilogy IMHO, and they continue to evolve. Chris still has the flair, Patrick has the hair, Jay has the stare, and Andrew.....well he still looks like he's 25. 8) The new cute bearish guy (Gregory?) was great too, and a really nice guy, obviously a fan too, he filled up the breaks with some of the intros like the organ chords from NS, super cool!

OK, this was the shit. Chris comes out and they do the Sloan Jukebox, song chunks on demand! Jay even relented and did a bit of Snowsuit, which made my friend Pete giddy! (We had asked Jay on his way in to do it and he said he didn't ever do it live anymore *grin*)
Then they closed with She says what she means, and it was the rocking version!
Of course, they were extremely gracious, signing and chatting until 2am or even later, I had to jet.
Solid 2 hours of Sloan, well worth my current exhaustion here in the office, screw the man!
Thanks again yall!
The show was awesome! It was great to finally get to see you and well worth the drive from South Carolina. Best show.... ever.
(Small Sins was pretty good too. Great tamborine player.)
Great Show! I hadn't seen you live before, but had been a fan since the mid-late 90's. My expectations were exceeded. Thanks for coming to Athens, you should come down more often.
