Sloan

I was very relieved to see the turnout was a lot better for this show, compared to the small number of guests at the last Sloan gig (back in '05 at the Quest Club). We had at least a couple hundred fans this time around! My uncle met up with us (my friend and I), who is a recent Sloan convert (I made him a copy of "Twice Removed" last year and he's been growing as a fan ever since!). Small Sins opened, and it was a shame the crowd wasn't more receptive. We had a semi-circle of people AWAY from the stage during their performance - but, as someone who never heard the Small Sins until tonight, they made a new fan!

I also think the fact that 89.3 The Current has been spinning the latest Sloan disc was a big help for the larger crowd. At one point during the show, Chris asked how many people had seen a Sloan show before (moderate cheers), followed by how many were seeing Sloan for the first time (A LOT of cheers!). Which was good! The band performed mostly new tunes off NHTEOI, with a mix of the classics and a few surprises ("I Am The Cancer" for one!). My only disappointment - after the show my friend Jef had spotted Patrick's Flying V back on the rack --- we COULD'VE had an "All Used Up" tonight! Oh well!

After the show we got to chat with Chris and Andrew a bit, before being forced to the back and out of the club by security staff. All in all, a great night, and the third time I've seen Sloan in 2 years! Come back to Winnipeg or Minneapolis within the year guys - I wanna keep that attendance streak alive!

First time for us getting to see Sloan live. They rocked, no surprise, and we were absolutely delighted by the show. Also really enjoyed meeting Andi. Also we purchased the DVD from the Action Pact tour and it's a hoot. Good job, all 'round, guys. We won't hesitate to drop a grand on another rock & roll vacation in the future.
