Fan Reviews

Sloan rocks. They continue to make great music look effortless. This show was fantastic and intimate, which is a great way to see the band. The whole EP was covered as were an interesting selection of past faves. I hope Columbus becomes a fixture on future tours. Always great to see Sloan!

This was my favorite type of Sloan show. Small venue, underappreciative crowd (at least in the beginning). Skully's can be a great place to catch a show, but it just wasn't quite right tonight. First off - this was an 'early show." The whole thing had to be wrapped up by 10pm for a late reggae show by 'The Flex Crew.' Come on, seriously? I arrived at 7:45 just in time to see the openers finish their last song... Sloan was onstage by 8:15. way too early for a headliner! I was lucky I decided to come 'early'... I expected to see the whole opening act by getting there when I did. My friends who had a prior commitment couldn't get there till 9pm, they got to see the final 7 or 8 songs...

Anyway, aside from that it was a fun evening. Great stage banter from Chris, asking if we were up to date on the EP (most people were clueless), and how long it had been since they played Columbus (Sept 2004, btw). Chris messed up some lyrics on 'oh dear diary' and Patrick gave him a hard time. Chris gave it right back when Patrick screwed up (twice) on Everything You've Done Wrong (3 times if you count that fact that Patrick said it was from their second album). They played all of the new EP and it sounded great live! and Andrew played a new unreleased song that was amazing!

I hope it won't be another 5 years before Sloan hit the C-Bus again, even if it means another 'early' show at Skully's.

Here is the set list as well as I could remember it, since I wasn't writing it down as I was listening:

take it upon yourself
burn for it
don’t you believe a word
autobiography
stand by me, yeah
fading into obscurity
at the edge of the scene
believe in me
the ns
unreleased new Andrew song
where are you now?
the great wall
midnight mass
oh dear diary
everything you’ve done wrong
set in motion
lines you amend
it is never
who taught you to live like that
another way i could do it

i am the cancer
the good in everyone

Was a great show ... except could't hear Jay's vocals in the beginning ... Crowd was a little weak or didn't quite get it. A bit of a different song selections from previous shows that I've been to. Loved 'Fading into Obscurity and the Good in Everyone was a great way to end the show. Really enjoyed the new stuff live.
The set list above is accurate, except ''lines you ammend was the first song of the encore"
Come back to Columbus soon!
