This was my first Sloan show, so I don't know how it stacks up against their usual performance, but I thought it was great, one of the best concerts I've ever been to. The opening band was kind of decent, which was a nice bonus, but it could've been an hour of feedback and it would've been worth it to hear Sloan's awesome set. It was good mix of older stuff and stuff from Action Pact (although I would've liked some more stuff from Navy Blues and Between the Bridges, but alas). Afterward I had a chance to meet Chris, Patrick, and Jay, and they were all quite friendly and I had a chance to chat briefly with Chris about their plans for the rest of the year and the next album.
In summary, tour the US more often!
What an amazing show. Thanks for coming back
guys WE MISSED YOU! The band sounded incredible
and the energy level of the band was flying high.
I have been to over 600 shows and I rate this in
the TOP 10. It was a musical clinic. I have seen
Sloan every time they have played Chicago and
they never dissappoint. My friends and I had the fortunate experience of meeting Chris. What a class act, and such a great person. He was kind enough to stand there with us and talk for about 10 minutes. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST SEE YOU AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES IN JULY!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the second time I saw Sloan this week- the other time was in Grand Rapids. It was vastly different in that there were many more die hard fans at this one- but there were many more people to begin with. The setlist:
- Ready for You
- Live On
- The Rest of My Life
- Lines You Amend
- Hollow Head
- Nothing Lasts Forever
- The Great Wall
- People of the Sky
- Backstabbin'
- Coax Me
- False Alarm
- I Was Wrong
- I Am the Cancer (setlist says Pen Pals)
- The Good in Everyone
- Sensory Deprivation
- Step On It Jean
- The Other Man
- Money City Maniacs
- She Says What She Means (Setlist says Gimme That)
- If it Feels Good Do it
It was an insanely high energy show. Definitely in my all-time top five.
Hey WHAT A BLAST!
Great setlist, great performance, lotsa action. Patrick & Jay, thanxx for the hott lixx!! Murph, you're a bad, bad man. Andrew, you are an animal -- an ANIMAL!!!!
And hey, way to go Chicago: borderline dangerous weather, yet enormous energy! Thanks EVERYBODY!
This was my first Sloan concert as well - my boyfriend drove us all the way from nearby Grand Rapids, MI {yeah, I couldn't make the GR one :( } to Chicago to see them - and it was completely worth it!
I was up, almost right in front of the stage {my left, their right}, the closest I've ever been to a performing band ever. Generally, I can't get in front because I'm tiny, but somehow it all worked out. SHORT PEOPLE IN FRONT! Haha. ;)
I got some fun pictures of the band {they should be posted} and I was appreciating the fact that they were letting us take pictures of them. :)
Overall, I completely enjoyed it - I'll be living in Chicago in a month or so - perhaps I'll see more of Sloan. ;)
I also liked the fact that the band seemed involved with the audience, unlike most bands who just play TO you, and not really WITH you... :)
My boyfriend really enjoyed to show too who didn't really know too much Sloan music beforehand.... so, another Sloan fan was created. ;)
Thanks for making the show a special, late birthday treat even though my birthday was May 9th. ;) You guys are awesome! :)
came all the way from kansas city to the show w/ my girlfriend (i got us tix for her b-day). i didn't get to gank the setlist, but the show was fantastic.
i've been a sloan fan for a good 10 years or more (i remember my friend making me a mix tape with underwhelmed on it back in '93 or so?), but this was my first time to see them live, and it was truly a dream come true to hear the riffs in all their decibal-heavy glory, to see chris mugging for the cameras on the front row (myself included) and see andrew freaking scott on the drums. i can't believe what a great drummer that guy is; keith moon without the "fill overkill". (and murph isn't a shabby drummer either)
i'm pleading for them to come to kansas city sometime...the offer still stands for bbq (or whatever else may drag you guys to cowtown!).
First I'd like to say: ROCK! This was my first Sloan show and it did not disappoint. Sloan completely rocked! They were really tight and hit every note. I was amazed how well they sing live. I couldn't believe that they nailed all the high notes of "”She Says What She Means” after such a long show. The whole show was great but highlights for me were hearing Coax Me, I am the Cancer and the Other Man. Everything off of the new album sounded really excellent too. Before they rocked “The Rest of My Life” Chris started to say that he wasn't sure if many people in the US have the new album but before he could finish the whole room exploded with cheers, so he just said "never mind" and told us all to sing along.
After the show as I was waiting in line to buy a t-shirt I got a thumbs up from Andrew and shook Patrick’s hand, which ruled.
It was raining pretty hard when I left so the girl I came with and I hung out in a doorway for a little bit waiting for the rain to subside. We were just about to leave when Chris came busting out the front doors of the Metro. He started shaking hands and signing autographs. He was super friendly to people and didn’t seem to mind too much when people asked him really stupid questions. Smiles all around.
I hadn’t thought about getting an autograph before but I figured I should since he was right there. I only had my ticket stub and their video collect, which I just bought. He signed my ticket stub and then asked if I wanted the video signed. I realized that I was most likely the only loser to get his video signed but I mumbled “yeah.” Then I wandered off.
The girl I was with really wanted to say hi to him but was too shy. So we hung around for a little bit while he talked to other people. We probably looked mildly creepy hovering around the edge of the crowd. The crowd thinned out a bit and Chris noticed that we were still standing around so he came over to us. My friend said, “Hello Mr. Rockstar.” To which he said “No my name’s Chris.” He shook our hands and talked for a little bit. Unlike everyone else that I have ever told my name to he did not think that I said Jordan. He said that was kind of different. With my limited social skills I responded, “Yeah, it’s Scandinavian. So it’s really Yorin but most people call me Jorin.” “ I’m a big boy” he said “I’ve got none of that American Xenophobia, so I can call you Yorin.” I thought that was pretty funny. Canada rules! He wanted to know how I’d heard about Sloan. And then said he was glad to see a guy who was able to bring a girl to a Sloan show. What a nice guy.
The show ruled and getting to make a fool of myself in front of Chris made it that much better. Sloan rocks!
Holy shit!!!!
This show was well worth the 8hr drive from kansas city! Growing up outside toronto, I never made it to a SLOAN show, but this was well worth the wait. One of the top 10 ever for me.
The kicks were also awesome in their opening gig.
Way more fun than should be leagal! Great show.
it amazes me that i have been listeing to sloan for 12 years! And what is more amazing is how they continue to put on the best live shows around. i smiled the entire time and sang along to every song. especially "i am the cancer" which i feel they did for me because they felt me sending them mind messages! Because all the other nights the set list had pen pals(including that night!)...which would have been great too...but i couldn't have been more excited to hear cancer.
the other hilarious thing is that even with out much if any air play they continue to gain new younger fans. I mean i always expect the crowd to be a bunch of late 20's people like myself...but i felt like the oldest person there. But hey...that's great for sloan!
i really felt like an old timer while i was walking back to the train listening to conversation of the 4 -18 year olds behind me. Saying they had never heard half those songs, and "how did that guy with the glasses know how to play the drums too. Thats cool. i wonder if they just started doing that?". I turned with my wisdom and said "they have been doing that for 12 years".
i *heart* sloan
rock. just rock.
Because Sloan has never disappointed me, you'd expect that wouldn't get excited like a little school boy when they come to town... well, i don't see that changing ever. Greatest band alive!
ANOTHER BLISTERNING SHOW FROM ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST CRIMINALLY OVERLOOKED BANDS.
ONCE AGAIN WE HAVE SEEN THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF ROCK 'N ROLL ... AND IT IS SLOAN.

yeah, ive been a here and there fan of sloan for the past 7 years. i must own up to the fact that ive got some of their stuff but not all and i cant really say why. everything ive got is amazing, but i go through so many phases and i move around so much, its hard to be a hardcore fan. a friend mentioned that sloan was coming around and i said "lets see what these guys are REALLY all about..."
BLOWN AWAY. one of the best rock shows ive ever been to. i already knew these guys had the songwriting and the intellect and the heart, but to see the live show(complete with the new over the top light show) was an catharsis, of the rock and roll kind. i went out and bought action pact the next day.
sloan, im not sure why it took me seven years, but im on board and looking forward to the ride. good things come to those who wait.
