I went to the show last night because I'd had such a blast at the Kee to Bala show in the summer of 2005.

I have to say that I felt really let down by last night's performance. I had recommended the show to a friend and felt bad for doing so.

I am very supportive of a band playing songs off of their new album; however this was a little much.

People were literally asleep at the back of the Kool Haus.

At the end of the show Sloan played a bunch of their hits at once. This would have been better received if they had dispersed them through the entire evening rather than at the end - as many people had already left at that point.

A very disappointing evening!

Sloan rocked the Haus last night. Chris' voice was in fine form. The material from their new album was incredible live. The version of "I Can Feel It" was excellent; they also played "Penpals" which was a nice surprise. While I'm not too much of a fan of Patrick's power chord rockers, they do "kick ass" live. They really get the crowd pumped. I was very impressed with thier musicianship. Andrew's drumming was excellent, and I forgot how good Chris can be behind the drums. Well worth the month-long wait...truly a Canadian Treasure.

One Word: Amazing!!!

did anybody write down a set list of the songs they played last night?

sincerely

It was great to see Sloan again as I haven't seen them for 3 years and the new album is great. HOWEVER, they didn't seem very tight and a lot of the singing / harmonies were out of tune.

Also, why did they let the drummer sing so many songs? Was it his birthday or something?

The songs with the opening band at the end of the show were great.

I think Sloan should have asked Rain Maida to open the concert with his new spoken word album.
I read that Rain is doing that now. Doesn't anybody else find that hilarious?

Good show guys, a little too much of the new album, could have used a few more classics, but otherwise great stuff. Chris was rockin out hard on the drums. Can't wait for your next show.

Friday night was awesome!!!!!

I forgot how good the sound quality is at the Kool Haus...(though I think they crank it up a few decibles too high - spelling?)...I hadn't been their since Sloan's 2003 show!!!!

You guys were awesome as always, and I loved hearing the new album live with the mixture of some older classics. My sister suggested that you guys should keep Greg MacDonald perminently - we're pretty long time fans and we thought the live key board, maracas, tambourine, etc. really added the finishing touch. (Plus, he's GOOD!!!!)

Not much more I can say without being cliche - the show ROCKED, and both the crowd and the band seemed to be having an amazing time. That was my 6th Sloan show, and I was definitely pleased with the performance. Good times were had by all!!!

But hey...what was up with those special wristbands to see you guys afetr the show? I've met Chris twice, and Jay and Patrick once face to face without a hassle!!! Are you guys too good for us now? (I'm just kidding....I understand that was a big show in a larger venue, but we always like to say "hi" to you guys and thank you for what you do. **Thank you**).

Keep on rockin'

Lisa*

P.S. - If people don't want to hear the new stuff, too f**king bad because it is AWESOME!!!!

ok first off, forget what all those nay-sayers are telling you. I thought the show was incredible!! I loved that you guys played so many new songs, I also love that you guys played some of the olders tunes too. it was such an amazing mix, thank you so much for making my month!

also, I dunno if anyone's interested, but I have photos/videos up on my livejournal,

GREAT SHOW! I have seen Sloan around a dozen times, but this was my first time in since 2003 w/Jet.

For those who wanted to hear more old songs, I felt the opposite I was so anxious to hear the new songs.

What really stood out to me was how strong (I thought he was lip-singing) Chris' voice was on the new songs(old ones too)...
Fading Into Obscurity, Set In Motion, Someone That I Can Be True With, You Know What It's About, were great live! I used find him obnoxious, but he is my fav now, hehe. Although "Last Time In Love" is a real cheese ball song, but i guess it is supposed to be.

Patrick songs brought out the energy in the crowd as usually. Jay I think played the least amount of songs which was disappointing, his a little hard to hear for me.

I think Andrew songs on the new album are very well written, but the were defiantly ruff sounding live... maybe they are complex to play and sing or maybe because the other three sounded so good. Also Andrew was the only one not to play an old song, I personally think he should have played at least one.

The didn't play any rarities, unless you consider Penpals as one. The harmonies sounded great except for a few times, but that is because Sloan are known for their harmonies. I can't remember which song, but Chris and Patrick sang different lyrics (in harmony), which was amusing.

It was fantastic to see you guys on Thursday. I was one of your hardcore groupies back before 1998. I lost you once, but now I've had a second chance and it brought mea simple, pure kind of joy to see you again.

Thank you so much for a fantastic show.

Sincere thanks,

Mandi

Excellent show - I'm glad to hear so much from the new album, because it's been a long time coming (pardon the reference) and their best since BTB (my previous fave). That's the point - their touring in support of their new album, so go support it. They did their "greatest hits" tour last year.

BTW, I thought Andrews' sets kicked ass. These guys each bring something to the table, which would otherwise be missed. That's what I dig about this band.

Most of these comments are ignorant and just plain annoying.
They certainly reflect some of the crowd that evening.
My sister (Lisa*) told me that she heard someone bitch about you not playing Rest Of My Life prior to the encore because it was your 'biggest hit'.
I wish I knew who that loser was because I would've told them that I've been a fan for 10 years and I know you've had lots of biggest hits not just that song!
Honestly, I could've died and gone to heaven when I heard Everything You've Done Wrong.
That happens to be the song that got me addicted to Sloan and I was just delighted to hear it live.
I used to listen to One Chord To Another every night for at least one month straight haha...that was a long time ago though.
C'mon C'mon was another expected pleasure, it was beautifully done.
And yes like my sister mentioned earlier I thought Greg was amazing, he added a lot of the Sloan elements that usually aren't heard live (keyboard, maracas, etc).
It was also crap that I didn't get to talk to anyone from the band.
We saw Andrew slink out but just let him go, I was tired myself and had to get up early for class.
Jay was walking around a bit too but looked busy so we just stood there and left after the stupid security guards were yelling at everyone to go home.
Awesome show, crappy venue.
I hate the Kool Haus.
My sister bought me a $4 bottle of freaking water.
Boo-urns, talk about a rip-off.
But the show was amazing, I enjoyed hearing your new stuff quite a bit.
Especially the 'punk' song because I love Bad Religion and NOFX so it was interesting to hear Sloan's take on that.
I need to get the new CD now!
ASAP!
Well, I'll be sure to keep on listening to the Sloan goodness.
^_^

I thought it was a rockin' (with an apostrophe and no g) concert. I make it a point to enjoy myself at anything I pay to do but IT'S NOT LIKE THAT WAS VERY HARD!!!!! I thought all the stuff you played was great, the only difference was I sang along to the old stuff. You guys gave her. I was happiest because I was at the front so I could scream the names of the band members desperately like I was going to die if they didn't marry me.. There's always a girl like that in Sloan's live tracks. :)
Sweet show, man, yeah all right, allright!

Lisa*December 9, 2006

Just wanted to add...more people seemed happy than displeased with the show based on reviews thus far...I found the negative reviews narrow-minded....and it was "Every Wants You" where Patrick and Chris said 'strong' and 'wrong' at the same time (a very unstandable slip) "That it feels so wrooo-o-ng, hope nobody hears about it, Got a feeling so stroo-o-ong, hope nobody hears about it..."

haha I thought it was funny actually - my vocal ensemble was following our conductor one year and she accidentally got the versions of John Lennon's "Imagine" mixed up...you know, every remembrance day....my music teachers are huge Beatles fans, so they didn't mean to!!

Just goes to show you that musicians are only human and mistakes do happen. I understand, guys*
