It was bound to happen one of these years: Walter Osternac--Canada's Polka King--and Sloan together at last. Join us in a heartfelt tribute to schnitzel and beer in the former Berlin of Canada. Leiderhausen recommended.
No one has sent us videos from the show yet! Send us your video so we can add it to the site.
So I just got home from Rocktoberfest, and it was a night to remember! This was my first time ever seeing Sloan even though I have been a long time fan (since 1998 or so).
I just bought the new album the other day, so i was kinda familiar with the new stuff. Still learning the names of songs.
The old stuff that they played was: The Other Man, Lines you Amend, Good in Everyone, People of the Sky, Coax me, Everything you've done wrong, Rest of my life, If it Feels Good do it, AND Underwhelmed (yay!! thank you!)
It was awesome when Sloan played polka with Walter... they looked like they were really having fun with it! Patrick looked so lost sometimes, cause he didn't seem too familiar with the polka songs lol.
final comment: awesome show!! I would definately want to go see these guys again! I've had the hugest crush on Chris Murphy since i was 11 years old... and he's still as sexy as ever 9 years later! haha (plus he had been sick for a few days, but he sounded good and healthy)
(I'm gonna try and post some pics from the show)
Wow...the best "Rocktoberfest" I've been to yet! Who could ask for more?... The "Polka King", Sloan, and of course beer.
Awesome job guys, you rocked K.W.
I posted a comment back in the summer about Sloan's show at The Kee in Bala, which was OK, except it was very short. Anyway, I brought along some of my Math grad geek friends from Waterloo to Oktoberfest with the hopes that the Kee show was an anomoly, and as it turns out, in my opinion, that it was. The band came on without delay and played for a long time. It wasn't just the copius amount of lager consumed, the eye-catching Frau Bizida ladies in their liederhosen, nor the intoxicating aroma of freshly prepared beer nuts that all seemed to combine and make this a great night. The show was great. Walter was fabulously oblivious and generous with handing out guitar solos. And Dr. Shrugs was dead on with "How do you follow that?" "with a big hit from 1995!" Brilliant. I laughed. Rick Mercer, a sad disappointment, and I am a fan. And as with anyone else who was at the show, I am positive that your head is still echoing like a cavernous vault upon speaking or hearing even the smallest of sounds. This was the loudest show I think I have ever been at. Thanks fellas, and good luck on the road.
What an awesome Rocktoberfest! I had a blast - thanks so much for a great gig! I was worried Chris might still be sick, but ya pulled through. Way to go - you sounded great! I loved seeing Walter on stage with you too for those polka numbers. BTW,
the new material sounds great live, however, "Underwhelmed" was my fave - a true classic! Thanks again. :)
It was a pretty fun show, hilarious to be opened up by Walter .. the polka king! he even came on stage with the guys, that was very Oktoberfestish!
Must say though, you could tell that Chris was sick, he didn't sing near as much as he does normally. And you could tell they just didn't have a lot of "oompf". But hey.. everyone gets sick and its not like this show could have been rescheduled. Can't wait to see them again in better form!
You guys ROCKED THAT SH*T at Rocktoberfest!! Amazing show guys!!! my first time seeing you guys live and it was AWSOME!!! loved the set with "Uncle Walter" too!! keep rockin out!!

Hey,
It was a good show, Sloan played awesome. Surprised to hear so many of their old hits. The new stuff was great too!
Too bad that is was really too loud! I'm not sure why it has to be this load at shows. Also annoyed by drunk people holding beer in hand, spilling it on others and being just generally obnoxious.
Walter Ostanek was great! It was nice to see him on stage with Sloan for a few Oktoberfest favourites!
Somebody ought to fire the guy doing the promotion of that event. I didn't learn about it until it was three days done. I hope you guys swing back around this area before the tour is done. Great record by the way. I played the crap out of it, bought the new Hip record, then went back to you guys. Good stuff.
