Two hilarious highlights. First was when Chris said he thought Portland was either heaven or hell, because they all went shopping at the coolest book store in the world (presumably Powell's) and saw books about Minor Threat, amd then they went to the coolest record store in the world (was he talking about Everyday Music?). Then he kind of lost his train of thought. Then Chris turned away and lost his train of thought, and Jay asked "What's the hell part?" and Chris said "Well, it's because everyone here is cooler than me." Very funny.
Second big highlight was when the band lost power on Jay's side of the stage. They conferred and pulled out what Chris described as "an emergency number." Patrick played drums and Chris did "Deeper Than Beauty." Some guy in the audience must've begged Chris to sing along, because Chris nodded "yes" and the guy jumped up on stage and sang along with him and did a GREAT job. At one point the guy ran to Jay's side of the stage and grabbed a tamborine and then ran back and began singing," and Chris teased him. Hilarious. At the end Chris said "Thank you, Stranger!"
Greg is touring with the band again and had a little hand-held siren which Chris announced that Greg had bought on eBay. They played LOTS of stuff from NHTEOI, just as they did in Vancouver last fall. Not very many Jay songs. Andrew was wearing a t-shirt, not the orange jumpsuit.
Seattle tonight!
